question about a reading....

question about a reading....

the love is one does the reader just read the part that starts love is patient or do they read the entire reading? thanks.

I just went to a wedding and they had this reading, and it was printed in the program. Its 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13, verses 1-13.

It starts:

If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and knowledge, and if I have faith, so as to move mountains, but I do not have love, I am nothing. If I give a way all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but I do not have love, I gain nothing.

And then it goes into:

Love is patient; love is kind, etc.

We sort of edited it to fit our needs...

If I speak with the tongues of humans and angels but have not love, I am but a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps nor record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love,. But the greatest of these is love.

If you are getting married in a Catholic church they might not let you edit it but you can iif you are having a civil ceremony. I chose not to edit it but our Unitarian minister suggested I did.

Our church gave us the following:

Corinthians 12:31-13:8a
Brothers and sister: strive for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in human and angelic tongues but I do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all the mysteries and all the knowledge; if I have all faith as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
