Do you know the song that has the lyrics 'now that you're gone, all I have is a band of gold... all thats left of the dreams I hold is a band of gold... blah blah blah'
What in the hell is that song about? I've always wondered. Someone please enlighten me. Thanks.

Re: Question about a song...
I can';t remember the song exactly .. but from that line .. it sounds like his wife died, or left, and all he has left is his gold wedding band????

Re: Question about a song...
Is it this song?
Band Of Gold'
(As recorded by Freda Payne) RONALD DUNBAR EDITH WAYNE
Now that you're gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dreams I hold Is a band of gold And the memories, of what love could be If you were still here with me
You took me from The shelter of my mother I had never known Or loved any other We kissed after taking vows But that night on our honeymoon We stayed in separate rooms
I wait at night In the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness, filled with gloom Hoping soon, that you'll walk Back through that door And love me like you tried before
Now that you're gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dreams I hold Is a band of gold And the dreams of what love could be If you were still here with me
But it goes on to say something 'that night on our honeymoon, we stayed in seperate rooms' and 'I wish you'd walk through that door and love me like you tried before' and taken from the shelter of her mother by a lover she'd never known? something like that.

Re: Question about a song...
Ok, that is confusing. Why would they stay in seperate rooms on their honeymoon???? Like they got married and immediately got into a fight and decided to split up? Weird.

Re: Question about a song...
Band of Gold' was originally offered to Diana Ross and the Supremes.[citation needed] However, because of the subject matter of the song - a marriage that ended on the wedding night - Ross did not want to record it. Then it was offered to Payne. She balked at first, finding the material more appropriate for a young woman or a teenager, but reluctantly gave in after being persuaded by the producers and songwriters to do so.[

actually, now that i realize exactly what song it is... i think that's it too. i actually asked my mom about this song years ago. it definitely sounds like it was an arranged marriage and that the bride was taken from her mother by a lover she'd never met... that would also explain the seperate rooms for the honeymoon and what not

See, I always just assumed that the groom was really gay but deeply closeted.

Because I’m bored as hell, I was just looking around (because I’ve always wondered too!) and the general consensus seems to be it’s about a man who’s impotent for whatever reason. Some other people said he was really in love with someone else, but I didn’t see anyone backing up my gay theory.

Re: Question about a song...
The singer herself says this:
Holland-Dozier-Holland convinced Freda to move from straight jazz into a more popular vein. 'The first song they handed me was 'Band of Gold,'' she recalled, 'and my initial reaction to it was 'What?' Lines like 'we stayed in separate rooms' made me think that this song was for a seventeen-year-old. She's copping out, doesn't understand her own womanhood and is really frigid, you know. So I said, 'Hey, I'm not frigid. Why should I sing about somebody who is?' They explained to me that the idea was to get the feeling over, and sell the song.
