north or south? south bellmore houses are very high and many houses in north bellmore are expensive too. High ranches in north bellmore go for over 400, 000. I know someone who paid 440 K for north bellmore
maybe the houses you saw are in an industrial area? Or have the train station in their backyard?

I suggest you take a drive.. I know that the homes in the Bellmore area have gone up and the house you saw may be in either on a busy street or in a dif area.. =)

Wacky- definitely take a ride or map quest it.
We saw a house really cheap in Merrick and then craig looked up the address and the train practically ran through the back yard and that was why the house was so cheap!

I live in Bellmore and I noticed that the homes in the Mepham area have been listing for less. I'm guessing it is from the fallout of the scandal which is stupid. It is still a great area. The prices will probably come up again soon so if you find a steal .....run with it!

they are selling their homes low for that? that is stupid if you ask me. I mean, that could have happened anywhere! if not bellmore, syosset, roslyn, anywhere!

I live in bellmore and like it so far. I like the location and my commute to nyc isn't too bad. That's interesting about the metpham thing - that is silly but that is known to be a pretty nice area and good school district so if they go down for that reason than I would look into that.

My bIL has a pizzeria in Bellmore and I personally think that its a nice town. Yes there is a more expensive side of Bellmore but I think the area is really nice.

That is a GREAT pizza place kathy!
I live in Bellmore and i love it there. .it is such a great town.
The best part of bellmore is the property sizes.. some of the houses i saw had 60X150 and so on, one of the properties was 50x207 it was HUGE, but the house needed major restoration.. the prices in bellmore are not that high, but the houses are different.. i went looking and they arent just capes they are all these different style homes, most i wasnt crazy about.. but some are on major streets.. so becareful.. there is this one house that says north merrick, and it was like 339K and it was BEAUTIFUl ranch, property was HUGE, but it was at the sign of Roosevelt, and it was on a main street and at the corner there was this broken down gas station, and the neighbors house was HORRENDOUS!!! there was crap EVERYWHERE.. the house also was LOCKED up TIGHT everywhere, which made me wonder.. So while its a great place to live bellmore/merrrick you just need to go look and see for yourself.

Re: Question about a town-How come home prices in Bellmore seem to be less?
I grew up in Bellmore and just moved into a new house there yesterday
I love Bellmore, always have. The only 'bad' thing is what went on with Mepham, but that too shall pass. I am actually surprised that would affect the prices of homes. It's the same as any other area, there are parts that are more expensive and parts that are more 'reasonable' (not that any areas on LI are reasonable anymore). If you have any specific questions, feel free. I lived there most of my life and like I said I am so happy to be back in Bellmore.

Bellmore is a GREAT area! Beautiful area actually!!! When we were looking at homes, we looked at a few in the area and the ones we liked were either way out of our league or too far from the train. There were also a few homes that were more affordable, but they seemed to be older colonials that needed lots of work. But I agree with Suzanne.. the property sizes were awesome for LI. Good Luck.
