Question about accent walls and room shape.

Question about accent walls and room shape.

I want to do an accent wall in our house once we move in. The room I chose is not a perfect square- it is more rectangular in shape.

I don't know if it would be better to do the shorter wall or the longer wall.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tell us more about the room. Where is the door and windows? Is there a wall that extends into another room?

Also, do you know how you want to place the furniture?

The door that leads into the house from outside is in this room, and the window (it's a big picture window) is on the same wall. It's a long wall. Opposite that is a stairway into the family room (it's a split level). The shorter wall to the right has a ledge for books and pictures and the other shorter wall has a door which leads to the laundry room and powder room. None of the walls extend into another room.

We are going to make the room a living room/study. I was thinking about putting the couch on the long wall opposite the window. We want to do built in shelves (but we don't know where yet) and we are also going to put an office armoire in the far corner.

do it on the wall that has two interior corners. Never paint to an outside corner, unless you have moulding or a reveal to stop the color.

Pick a wall that you will be able to put a nice furniture arrangement on, like a sofa with picture frames, a nice table with flowers and /or frames, etc.

Re: Question about accent walls and room shape.

We have a long rectangular Living room in our apartment. We decided to use the wall opposite the windows as our accent wall. It also helps seperate the area that we use as our LR from the area we use as our Dining Area.

Here's a picture. It is all I have on the computer.
