DH and I are invited to numerous destination weddings (Mexico, Bahamas, etc) for our friends. I was wondering what can my DH wear? I don't think a dark suit or tux will be a good idea since it's pretty hot. Can he wear a beige/khaki suit with just a button down shirt and no tie? Or is that something the groom will wear too? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.

He definitely should wear a light colored outfit. Chances are the groom and groomsmen won't even be wearing dark suits or tuxes.

We went to one in hawaii and he wore regular dark suit. Almost all the guests were in normal suits, black, dark blue and gray suits.But everyone did take off their jacket as soon as the reception was underway. So really it was shirts, ties and and dress pants. He can also wear a lighter or khaki suit if he has one or wants to. TAt this wedding the groomsmen wore khaki tuxes and the groom wore a normal black tux... so you really don't know what they are going to wear. I would have him wear whatever he feels most comfortable in. They tend to be a little more lo key if they are outside or on the beach. If you are not sure I would ask though... thats your best bet. The bride at this wedding told me to tell FH to be very casual... but we were glad he wasn't too casual since everyone else was in typical dark suits on the beach in Hawaii. It may seem odd but thats what happened. HTH!

I think a light colored linen suit would be perfect (no tie, of course). You could also ask the couple what they are envisioning for the ceremonies (i.e., is it on a beach or inside the hotel) and what the appropriate attire may be. I have seen some invitations where it says 'Elegant Beach Attire' so if there isn't something on the invite, ask!

We were just in St. John for our honeymoon, and there were a number of weddings going on at the resort while we were there. I noticed that the guys mostly wore khaki-type slacks and either buttonp-down or a nice polo shirt.

i have never been to a destination wedding but IMO because of the weather and atmosphere i think he could def wear a light colored suit ... i think it might be strange to wear a dark colored suit ... hope this helps

We were just in Mexico for a DW and basically all the guests were in khaki or linen pants with light colored button down shirts.

Yea, my FH wore linen pants with a linen top for his cousin's wedding last year. The men dressed pretty casual, except for the groomsmen. I would def. ask the bride what the attire is.

I luv beige khaki suits! Navy blazer w/ khaki's is also appropriate. I think anything appropriate for a garden wedding or more casual wedding is fine, unless you think the couple is planning something extra fancy. I'd bring a few different options.
i was planning this in the beginning and I was going to have a cocktail reception the first night, ceremony and dinner reception second night and sunset BBQ the third. too bad i got talked out of it. i never should've given in on this one!

I tend to think that destination weddings are more casual. a khaki suite should def be fine. You can always ask the bride- they might be having it more casual than that even.

We are going to a destination wedding next month in Aruba, and all the gents are wearing linen or chino pants with light colored shirts. Only the groom is wearing a suit, a light colored one.

i think this is a question you need to ask the folks HAVING the destination wedding...
the LAST thing you want it for FH to show up in khaki's and a nice button down and walk up to the ceremony and see everyone else in TUXES.
it's not very likely going to happen that way - but in the same thought - you won't want to be overdressed either.

Most of those weddings at beach resorts are pretty casual. You should ask the bride and groom because FH went to one where he felt overdressed wearing khakis and a light button down shirt. he was more dressed up than the groom. He might be able to get away with a short sleeved collared button down and linen pants
