Question about Belly Button Piercings

Question about Belly Button Piercings

For those of you who have belly button piercings and have had a child or are pregnant... Did the hole stretch with your tummy? If so, how big did it get? Did it go back? I really want to get my belly button pierced and this is the one thing that is stopping me..

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

I got my belly button pierced 11 or so years ago. I never had a child so I can't answer your question from personal experience but i do know that they have maternity navel rings. I believe they are longer to accomodate stretching in that area. Normal sized navel rings may eventually get uncomfortable in the last trimester.

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

From my own personal experience, I dont suggest belly piercings...I took out my ring about 6 years ago and my hole still isn't fully closed. I notice when I get heavier during winter months, the hole stretches and gets uncomfortable. I can't imagine what'll be like when im preggo :(

I have to agree, I got mine done like 6 years ago and took it about about 4 years ago and still have a permanent hole there. For me it was a big mistake.

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

we are told in nursing school to tell our patients to take out their belly button piercings when they become pregnant for 2 reasons..

1. your belly will stretch and the ring might become tight against your belly thus becoming painful and making the hole stretch

2. that ring is a source of infection and the last thing you want to do while you are pregnant is get an infection near the source of the fetus (or really anywhere in the body) !!!

so please if you are/do become pregnant take out any nipple, belly or pubic piercings...

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

i cant help you with the pregnancy question but i actually have TWO belly button rings, one on top and one on bottom and i dont regret them. one got infected once so i took it out and it was such a tiny hole, it closed right away and i re-pierced it. no problems. my holes are small, i guess it depends on the person though.
but at the same time, when you decide to take it out you might not be flashing your belly around anyway so who cares if there is a little hole that no one will notice.
i've also had them for 13 years with not many issues

I'm 23 and I've had it since I was 15 and still wear it and love it! Totally didn't know they had longer 'maternity rings'... haha! I didn't want to take mine out!

I've had it for 8 years and I've never had an infection...even after I got it pierced... should I be concerned about it KimiDanny?

I had mine pierced about 10 years ago and wound up it never healed properly and I had to take it out it took a really long time to heal an there was all this scar tissue there and I still have a scar from it. So I would say no...

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

i've had mine for about 14 years now and i soooooo dont wanna take it out- but i think i might have reached the age (i'm 30) that i just have to part with it- i'm too old for it now- or at least thats what FH told me-
plus my wedding dress is very form fitting and you can see it thru the dress- so i was contimplating taking it out for the wedding!

and you'll probably have a scar or tiny hole- i had my lip pierced for a year - took it out like 8 years ago and there is still a tiny hole......

i would talk to your doctor about it... we are just always told to tell patients to take it out...

I have had mine pierced since I was 16. I am now 27, I don't regret it one bit!! I love it! I actually HATE how my stomach looks with out it!! LOL. Anyway, i have never been pregant. but my Aunt who is 40 has one and her hole was fine. She had a maternity band and when it got closer she took it out and she was able to put it back in after. It may have seemed bigger when preggo but that because your skin is stretched. It went back to normal after baby weight was gone.

i had mine for about 8 years, i took it out almost a year ago and while the hole has closed it looks like it hasnt, i would definitely recommend that you take it out if and when you become pregnant

I wouldn't do it either.
I had mine done TWICE and I'd love to get it done again, but my body rejected it both times... not pretty, I still have a pretty bad scar.
My Aunt still has hers... 15-20 years and 3 kids later. I think she just took hers out when she was pregnant and had it re-done after, I'm not sure though.

If you REALLY want one... like the only thing stopping you is 'will it stretch?' then get it. you can take it out and it will close, granted you might have a scar, but when you're 60+ and no longer want it, you'll have the scar anyway.

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

Two of my girlfriends have them and have been pregnant.

One had to have hers cut off because she 'popped' over night and it started pulling and she couldn't get it out herself.

The other one's doctor advised her to take it out when she was pregnant. She took it out at about 3 months. After she had her daughter, she had to have it re-pierced. Even though the hole was still there, it wasn't all the way through.

She's now pregnant with baby #2 and she said she's taking it out and leaving it out afterwards because her belly button has never been the same after the first baby.

my mom got hers pierced at the age of 45 i believe... and still has it in and shes like 52 now... so no, 30 isnt old at all... as for the wedding dress thing... the hole wont close up right away so def take it out for the day and put it back in the next day

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

OK... so after reading all the post and researching a bit online, I think I might wait until after I have kids and hope that I have a hot body I was wondering if there's like clip-on belly button rings or something I can get for the HM... I know it sounds funny, but I just think they look so HOT

Re: Question about Belly Button Piercings

^ check spencers, I got one there YEARS ago... but they don't stay on too well.
Or just take body jewels (I get them at my dance supply store) and glue them on. lol
