One of the halls I'm interested in told me that if I booked for 2011 they would give me a significant discount. Another venue said no. My question is do many venues discount the price if you are booking one of their few dates left for 2011?
I'm guessing it its a date like 9/11 or something that they know they won't book because its last minute type of thing then they'd give you a break, but in general you should be able to negotiate this break anyway IMO for 2012 prices if you want to wait too.
I know a lot of halls give a discount if you are taking over someones contract.
You can get HUGE price breaks! FH and I got engaged a month ago. We booked for this year and we're paying an truly unreal rate. We didn't take over a contract and it's not 9/11. They gave us a bunch of dates which weren't yet booked and we picked what we wanted. This happened at every venue we visited. RHs know that unbooked '11 dates are going to be a complete loss so they give incredible deals when you take one. I have a friend who got engaged 2 wks ago and she's about to book for '11 because of the HUGE price breaks (we're paying $40 less pp than the normals rate).

lol I know someone getting married on 9/11... they got a good deal... but anyhow, check other places out and see!! might as well!
One place was giving a discount if my engagement was less than a year. They wanted to fill the dates - and it wasn't 9-11
