Question about Breast Pumps

Question about Breast Pumps

What's a good inexpensive one to get? I am planning on breastfeeding right away but will probably only do it for about 5-6 weeks so that when I return to work the baby is use to the formula. I want to get a pump so that in the couple of weeks I am BF I can pump away in case I can't be there for every feeding and to help with some of the pain of full breasts.

So what's a good inexpensive one to get? I don't want to spend $200-300 on a pump I'm only going to use for a couple of weeks. But I do want a good one-I'd prefer an electric one but I don't have to have it.

Thanks ladies.

I have the same pump but double. It was around 129 dollars at Babies r Us. The double makes pumping go a faster, except you don't have any free hands. But you can use one or both. It gives you either option.

Re: Question about Breast Pumps

Why does the baby need to use formula anyway? Just because you are working doesn't mean that you cannot pump successful and continue to breastfeed. You can do both. Thousands of women do

There is a BIG difference between a pump for occassional use and a pump while you are working. An occasional use pump is for a mother who needs to pump to go out to dinner, or to a movie or a wedding. A working mother needs a good, high quality pump. And while they seem expensive, they are worth their weight in gold. I know it seems like a big expense but formula for one month costs more money.

Also, occasional use pumps will not help you maintain your supply the same. And that is what a working mother needs.

A Medela Pump in Style (or PIS Advanced) or Amedea Purely Yours (which is basically the same but the company does not have the marketing budget that Medela has) is what a working mom needs. It is a double breast electric pump. It comes in a shoulder bag or a knapsack type case. It has a place to store the milk bottle with an ice pack as well as your pumping supplies.

No one even knows I am carrying a breast pump. It looks like a work bag.

You can purchase it on Leche Connection and it is NEW, factory sealed but you save about $100 off the BRU/BBB price tag.

Also- you can get yourself an easy expression hands free bra. They are about $34. Anyone who double pumps should have one. It has helped me beyond words and I highly rec'd them.

I also HIGHLY rec'd that you bring the phone number to a professional lacation consultant to the hospital with you. I wish I had done that. Often the hosptial LCs are not really LCs, just nurses who took a class or two. They did not help me at all and put my supply at risk. If you need a good one mine is in Babylon. Let me know.

Re: Question about Breast Pumps

I have to go to formula because I can't pump while I'm at work. First off there's no place for me to do that at my job and second off I work in a very fast paced environment and I wouldn't be able to take additional breaks to pump.

Thank you for all of the information. I'm delivering at North Shore Manhasset so I don't know if your LC would work out for me. But thanks for the offer.
