question about bridal showers

question about bridal showers

So my maid of honor is finally coming around. She asked me today about the bridal shower.

I think money may be a factor she never said anything to me about before (shes always been the 'rich friend')

because today she asked me if it was rude to invite people to a lunch at a tearoom for my shower and have them pay for their own plates with a $30 minimum.

I told her I think whatever she does even if its just in someones backyard is more than enough for me.

What do you ladies think about people paying for their own plates at a shower?

I dont really know what to say to her, because I do not want to make her feel obligated to pay for anything.

Its very rude IMO , I don't know how many you have in your BP but they should all put in to throw the shower. If they can't afford it there is no reason to have it a restaurant. We had mine at my sisters house and it was great!

I agree. There are only two members of my bp in long island...the other is my baby sis who lives in fl. Both are starving artists that live in manhattan.

I probably wouldn't go and would just send a gift.

In a nice way you need to tell her that wont work. Unless you were my sister or best friend, I would never pay a 'cover' to go to a shower.

I didn't go to party I had to pay $55 for food and extra for drinks.I think its rude to ask someone to come to a party and bring a gift and pay for their food. sorry its just my opinion.

yeah i agree with the other girls.... i dont think its a good idea. if you are asking people to pay for their plate & drinks plus a gift it's just too much for people. i would suggest doing it at someones home. i just had mine in my house, and it was beautiful! every single guest told me that it was one of the best showers they have ever been to!!! probably because it's more personal in a house.

I would think it's rude to have to pay for a plate. If she's not financially set to pay for it, why doesn't she have it at someone's house - in the backyard. Invite the close friends, etc.......
