what is usually included that doesn't jack up the price? like what would the cake be if you didn't add anything that cost extra money?

Definitely depends on the RH or bakery.
In general though, it seems like when you use your RH's cakes, you are limited to certain cake and filling flavors, and then whipped cream or buttercream icing. Straying from those flavors, adding fondant, or complicated designs add on to the cost.
I don't know about bakery cakes...we're using our RH's baker, and probably just going with a basic cake. I just want it to take good and look nice, really.

I *think* the cake that is included is a 3 tier cake, no fondant.... thats extra. Our cake credit there was like $400.00. I upgraded my cake.. I wanted more tiers and fondant and some crystals. I supplied the broaches and the cake topper. I had to give them an extra $600.00 after everything.
The cake was delish! BUT... I ordered a square cake.... they made it round. And if you look at the pics the top bow is upside down in my opinion which annoyed the crap out of me all night lol... I'm anal though!

Haha I couldn't tell in the first pic but in the second one you can tell if you compare it to the other bow!

The Royalton includes a pretty great cake, imo. We got a 4 tier, square, fondant covered, red velvet with cream cheese filling cake. It was DELISH!! No upgrades needed!
ETA: I did however send them a picture, and the picture had TINY little dots all over (like tiny white dragees), not the giant buttercream nippples as I call them that they gave me. When we went over KerriJohnS's cake with them, I made sure to tell them NO NIPPLES on her cake like they did for me!!!! HAHAHA!!!
