I got a couple checks from people who can't attend the wedding. They made it out to B&G Smith...Now, I haven't changed my name yet--can we deposit it now?

Re: Question about cashing checks...
Call your bank and see how the handle it. My bank told us they would cash the checks but I have to sign my maiden and married name on all the checks until I officially change it with them.

Re: Question about cashing checks...
We just wrote for deposit only with the account number on the back of our checks and didn't have any problems.

I did the same thing with all of our checks too and we had no problem.

Re: Question about cashing checks...
i would: 1) wait until you've received your marriage certificate which takes approx 10 business days. bring the certificate along with your state certified identification card and / or passport.
2) ask the check provider to reissue another check under yoru current name. you might feel strange or uneasy asking this person, tho.
in any case, inform your bank of your recent event which led you to this point.

Re: Question about cashing checks...
Do you have a joint account? If so, only one of you needs to sign the check. Your FH can just sign his name and deposit it.
