Hi, my brother is getting married next year, he is Catholic and his fiancee is Jewish. They are planning to have the marriage ceremony at the reception hall.
They have contacted a Priest and he will not come to the ceremony to perform at the hall.. Does anyone have any info on any priest that will perform outside of their church along side a Rabbi??
Any help will be very much appreciated...
Thanks.

Re: Question about Catholic/Jewish Wedding Ceremony
I'm Jewish and fh isn't. We're going to use Rev. Joe. He can come with a rabbi or a cantor. They personalize each wedding so you can pick and choose what praywers, traditions, etc. that you want. # is 631-732-1596
I saw the rev perform 2 ceremonies and I really liked him.

Re: Question about Catholic/Jewish Wedding Ceremony
We are in the same boat as your brother, I'm jewish and FH is catholic. Our priest is Father Rich. He's amazing. And our rabbi is Rabbi Ron. He's great too.
Re: Question about Catholic/Jewish Wedding Ceremony
he should really meet with someone at your parish. typically, catholic priests or deacons will NOT go outside the church to perform weddings. in order for it to be a valid Sacrament for the Catholic, it must be done INSIDE a Catholic Church.
However, at times, usually only for SOME (NOT ALL!) interfaith weddings, will a priest or deacon do it outside the church. my SIL married a Jewish guy and got married at the hall and it was recognized as a Sacrmaent for her. in fact, her diocese in Florida is one of the few that allow this due to the high amount of Catholic-Jewish weddings there.
If he wants it to be a Sacrament for him and a valid marriage in the eyes of the Church, he should realyl talk to someone there and see what needs to be done. They will both have to attend interfaith Pre-Cana through the Church and the Catholic is asked to promise that any children from the marriage be raised Catholic. (They don't track this obviously, but it is asked). An inter-faith dispensation must also be completed by the Church and your brother (it's just paperwork).
Also, some rabbis will come into a church, but they are usally the more reform and less conservative rabbis. Most rabbis won't go in a church and most priests won't go in a temple, so it gets tricky.
If he gets married at the reception hall without Pre-Cana or without the proper dispensation it is NOT a valid, Catholic marriage. It is recognized by the state of course, but not the Church. Father Bob and other officiants posted on here are NOT priests that are in communion with the Church... they have left the priesthood...when they say retired, it's misleading as all a retired priest is a priest that is no longer working for a parish full-time; a priest is always a priest/// they won't perform a Catholic wedding unless the Pre-Cana, dispensation, etc. has been done. Father Bob and others will do a wedding in the Catholic 'tradition' but it is not a Catholic sacrament.
Hope this isn't too confusing.... FM if you have questions...

Re: Question about Catholic/Jewish Wedding Ceremony
We are Catholic/Jewish and are getting married at the RH, using Monsignor Lisante and Rabbi Block.
We went through interfaith pre-cana and I believe the marriage will be recognized for FH as a Sacrament.

Re: Question about Catholic/Jewish Wedding Ceremony
I'm catholic and DH is jewish. We had Rev. Sica & Rabbi May perform our ceremony and they did a tremendous job. Everyone raved about them and so many people asked for their phone numbers to use them. They are the very, very nice with a great sense of humor and they made my ceremony so special. FM me if you want details.

Re: Question about Catholic/Jewish Wedding Ceremony
Msgr. Jim Lisante at St. Thomas the Apostle in West Hempstead. He married us (in the church - we're not interfaith), and then was on his way to NYC to perform a ceremony similar to what you're describing. He does an amazing job!
ETA - He is a priest in full communion with the Catholic church (many of those mentioned above are NOT) and your brother's wedding will be recognized by the church. He can perform the ceremony outside the physical church building b/c your brother's FW isn't baptized.

Re: Question about Catholic/Jewish Wedding Ceremony
My fsil and fbil had a joint ceremony. A priest is only allowed to perform a marriage outside the church under these conditions, however it is also their decision if they will do it. The one your brother asked may be more strict than others- he should try speaking to someone at another church if thats possible. Or maybe try asking a deacon to perform the ceremony. Goodluck! It must be frustrating for them!! But im sure they will find someone!
