Question about checks you get at wedding?

Question about checks you get at wedding?

Our wedding isn't for another 16 days, but some people who have said no to the wedding have given us some monetary gifts. The problem is a lot of the checks are addressed to Mr. and Mrs. (new last name). We deposited one check into our joint account, but got a phone call from the bank saying they would not let us deposit any more checks made out that way unless we show some proof. Is our temporary marriage license enough proof?

i am not positive but i dont see why that wouldn't be enough proof...you said it is already a joint account..i say talk to CSR and if they can't help see a Manager

I'd give it a shot, worse case they hold the checks for until it's official.

we never opened a joint account...and i kept my name...so i had all kinds of checks written out...some to Mr & Mrs...some to my name & DH's name...some to just me...both our banks (Citibank & Bank of America) let me deposit them into each account, even though each account only had just my name or just his name...they didn't even ask to see our Marriage Cert which i brought just in case...BUT they did say that we needed to add the second person's name for future transactions...HTH..i would ask to speak to a manager & explain!

My bank is chase. We just opened a joint checking about a month ago. We got all kinda names on checks - even one with my fh mother's last name! I brought in my wedding invitation and they never had a problem!

DH and I have a joint account, but I didn't change my last name and I'm in the same position as you regarding named checks.

I've heard two different stories from Bank of America. The online Web chat agent said that we must both endorse the check, and I must endorse as MyFirstName HisLastName and MyFirstName MyLastName to show the proper 'chain' of names. DH also had to endorse.

When I spoke to a teller in a branch, she told me that to deposit, it was only necessary for one of us to endorse and if it were me, MyFirstName MyLastName were fine. To cash, both of us have to be present.

Clear as mud, right? Elevate to a manager. Surely this isn't the first time it's happened to them.

Luckily, I explained the situation to the bank teller and she let me dep. it into my bank account....she did tell me that she wouldnt be able to do it again tho..

I used to work at HSBC Bank and they would require a marriage license to deposit the checks or you could call and speak to the manager first and let him/her know the situation. If they know in advance, sometimes they will let you slide.

when we got married, we were with washington mutual. most of t he checks was made and to mr & mrs gary .... the b ank took them. inorder for your name to be changed on the account, they need to see the official marriage certificate

It depends on what bank you belong to also...we have a joint at Commerce and we had to show our certificate from the Church as well as marriage license....all the checks made out to Mr & Mrs I had to sign my maiden name and new name....and DH had to sign the check as well...it was a big pain but no issues after that.
