question about cleaning wood furniture

Our bedroom set is an distressed black with some cherry tones. I was using Pledge on a soft towel about once a week. Then I noticed some spottiness and a little streaking. I layed off the Pledge and now just dust with a dry Swifer. Think the spots (it's slight but since the furniture is black I see it) will release fro the wood? What do you use? Thanks!
