Question About DJ
I just wanted to know how important is a light show? What exactly is that? Would that be a big thing to not have? I'm just trying to save money.

Oh, and do I really need party favors?
Sorry, yeah I mean the party favors/giveaways the DJ gives out. What do the lights do?
None of it's necessary - it's all a matter of personal taste. The light show is just an added touch - my sister had an upgraded one for her wedding. It was fun - it added a party element to the celebration. She opted against the handouts - b/c she's not a fan of them.
Skip 'em unless you want to make your wedding reminiscent of a Sweet 16....no need for them...it's a wedding.
I think a good DJ is what gets guests on the dancefloor, not a blow-up guitar or silly, neon glasses. JMO though - especially from what I've seen at past weddings.
We specifically didn't want either of those things because we both had our Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and I had my Sweet 16. We felt, for us (and I'd like to emphasize that), that a wedding is something a little more elegant and classy and that we wanted a grown-up affair. That, and I think that a happy bride and groom and great music gets people up on the dance floor...not props. If anything, I always avoid the props at affairs because I think it makes people look silly. JMHO.
Hmmm, well if it saves me a couple hundred dollars, I think I'll do without it, just as long as I feel confident in the DJ. This makes me feel less guilty if I spend a little more money for some other service.
