Question about dresses
Re: Question about dresses
I seriously thought I would be considered a plus size when I went to look at gowns, but I totally wasn't, in fact they were too big, so I would make sure that you are infact plus size first, and then, maybe if you know you are going to lose weight, which I am also doing, you might want to wait to look. What might look good on you know might not after, but more realistically, what you don't think looks good now probably will after somw weight loss. Hope that helps and good luck!
Re: Question about dresses
I think it depends on the dress and the seamstress, but my sister who was recently a BM had this exact issue and it did not work out well! When she ordered her dress she was told she needed a size 24. By the time the dress came in she had lost 50lbs. The dress needed to be taken in so much that it no longer lined up right, the boob darts were puckering, the sleeves weren't right, the neckline was so high etc. It was a mess! She went back so many times and in the end it looked alot better but it still didn't fit right. She was so looking forward to getting all dressed up since she had slimmed down so much but she hated herself in this dress. The bottom was still too big, the neclkine was way higher on her than on all the other BMs because of the extreme alterations etc. She was really disappointed. Granted, it may have been a better situation with a different seamstress, but who knows. Since you have the time to wait (your profile says you are getting married in Nov. 04) I would wait to order. Also, if you do lose weight you might like yourself in a lot more styles than you would if you went looking now.
Re: Question about dresses
You have way over a year, I would wait a couple of months. If you seriously lose weight, you may be able to look at a whole other batch of dresses that you thought you wouldn't like. Or you could get a better feel for what you like at the weight you are going to be at the time of the wedding. Does that make sense?
Re: Question about dresses
I would say start looking, then find out when the latest you can order is. If you find a dress you like, just order at a later date. 2 sizes is usually all that they recommend for taking in a wedding dress.
Re: Question about dresses
i would definitely wait. if you order something now and you lose a ton of weight, your alteration bill is going to be sky-high!! going down 2 full dress sizes usually requires the seamstress to practically re-cut the entire dress. depending on the detailsing - beads, lace, etc - your alteration bill will be high and the dress may not fit right.
Re: Question about dresses
If your trying to lose weight, definately wait a little while. Like everyone else said, at a different weight a different dress could be very flattering but that doesn't mean you can't look around and get some ideas.
