Question about each bridemaids choising a different dress????

Ok after much thought I decided to have all my girls go to David's Bridal and chose a dress they like and they will all be in the same color. Should I limit the girls to only 1 type of Material such as Satin or Gorgette or can they choose either material. Would it look strange togther...2 different types of Material??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Thanks for your imput ladies

Definitely limit them to one fabric. Chiffon next to satin, IMO, will make things look off and in the photos, you WILL be able to tell the difference.

Yes, if they are all not the same fabric they will be different colors

Yes, limit to one fabric. Also if they have different fabrics, the colors may look a little different.

I agree...I LOVE the look when BM's all wear different dresses, but in the same color/fabric, but it might look weird if they don't have the same fabric... I think because even if they are the same color, satin and chiffon have a different hue

Make sure the fabric and color are the same. Let them choose anything else

I chose the color (the color only came in satin) and designer and let my girls choose their own dresses. They all ended up getting strapless and a few even picked the same dress. They are all very different shapes and sizes so I did not want to be the one who would dictate what will look good on them. They all also have very different tastes so I wanted to make sure that they will wear the dresses again.
To differentiate my Matron and Maid OH from the rest of the brides maids, they will wear a different color shawl that I am going to get for them all as BM gifts.

It was actually funny at the store because my girls were upset that they could pick out their own dresses instead of me telling them what to wear!! I couldn't believe it

I did this for my BM's. We used David's Bridal 'seperates'. The BM's used the A-line skirt and got to choose their top and the MOH had a straight skirt and got to choose her top. All were the same color and fabric. They looked really nice together and people gave them a lot of compliments!

I chose a color at Davids. MOH an 2 BM's are in chiffon and 2 BM's are in Satin. I really not all that worried how it will look, but I am very laid back about the whole dress thing.

I let my ladies choose their own attire. My requests were that it be black and something that they feel good about wearing and will be able to wear again. One chose a chiffon dress, one chose a matte satin and the other chose a shiny satin. I don't think that it looked weird at all, but BM's dresses were not that important to me. I was of the mindset that if I ask people to spend money for the honor of being in my Bridal Party I want them to be happy with how they spent their money.

I agree, choose the one fabric. Different fabrics will make the colors look slightly different.

Yes, definitely try to limit them.

I had the same idea but the women at Bridal Reflections told me to be careful since this is a formal affair and you don't want to take away from that. That being said, I still think its a great idea.

i say go with just one fabrication. be consistent and also think about how the dresses will look in pictures. Too much of anything isn't good.

I did this with my BMs at David's bridal as well. My wedding color is lilac. I told them I don't care what dress they get as long as they are happy with it and it's lilac. My girls are different shapes and sizes and I wanted them to be as comfortable as possible. They loved the idea and they all picked dresses they would wear again. I did not care about the fabric and I was just happy they agreed to be in it. I have 10 BMs and 2 FGs and I have other things to stress over instead of arguing w/ 10 different people w/ different personalities about what dress they like and don't like. Hey, it worked for me.

i did the same thing. I told them to chose any Bill Levkoff style in Black Euro Satin, but it has to be long with minimal beading

you know, after i wrote that, it seems picky!

I was in a wedding where the bride did this. We did the 'seperates', we all had the same a-line skirt, same color and same fabric. But we all had different style tops - it looked great and everyone felt comfortable.
