FMIL threw us an e-party, so we received a lot of presents. I am also having a shower, so I assume I will receive a few presents there too. And then, of course, the wedding, at which I am sure we will receive more presents or cash. I feel like my wedding guests might feel like they have to give 2 or 3 presents because of all of these events, does anyone else feel this way? It just seems like too much, I don't want people to think that they have to give us so many presents just because of all of the different events.

Re: Question about engagement/wedding presents
I am always so happy for my friends/family that I don't mind giving 2 or 3 gifts... Now if anyone has a problem with it, they just shouldn't go...you don't need those people there anyway...but most good friends and family will have no problems with all the festivities and gifts that go along with them.

Re: Question about engagement/wedding presents
I agree, the only thing is I've been to many weddings, and mine will most likely be one, where there are multiple showers. If you invite someone to more than one, I'd try to let them know that they shouldn't bring another gift.

Re: Question about engagement/wedding presents
I have a feeling that some people will have an issue...specially since there are 4 family weddings this year..mine being the first. For our E-Party we insisted on no gifts...but we got plenty still. And for the bridal shower...that's where we will be getting our gifts, and then cash for the wedding. Everyone is from NY...so they all know how it works. LOL

Re: Question about engagement/wedding presents
I have given many of my guests 2-3 presents each, and my parents have been to their friends graduation parties, birthday parties and someday all their wedding events, so honestly I don't feel remotely guilty about it. It is what it is.

I have done this for everyone else so I am not really worried about it. You deserve it!

Thank you sooo much for this post! I felt the EXACT same way.. and all of your responses made me feel better about it. The only thing is.. you guys have been to a lot of weddings and thus are used to it.. I am the first of my family and friends to get married and so I feel like no one will be used to it and think it's too much and then I feel kinda uneasy and weird about it. But I guess that's the way it goes right?

You might be the first but you won't be the last. You will go to more weddings, and then it will be your turn to get gifts for people. And your family too. Trust me it all works out.
Besides people can spend what they feel is appropriate and what they are able to spend. You are not dictating to them what to get you. Technically your not supposed to expect gifts at all at e-parties and no one is required to bring them to it. I had a few friends who didn't bring gifts to my e-party and I was ok with it.
Just remember... You are not asking for gifts, your inviting them to celebrations. (But that is why you should only really put registry information in the shower invitations.)

Re: Question about engagement/wedding presents
This is why I didn't have an engagement party, especially with the wedding close by.
But I've def done it, its just usually for the people with longer engagements.

Re: Question about engagement/wedding presents
I understand that. But hey i have done it for everyones wedding & our parents have as well. This was a reason y my Eparty was a year away from my actual wedding date. So it didnt make anyone feel like there are all of these parties at once.

Re: Question about engagement/wedding presents
I felt this way too. I have alot of guests coming that were currently laid off and are not getting jobs any time soon... so I worry about this b eyond worry that they will think they HAVE to come. I have been considering writing a personal note to add into my invites that says something along the lines of
'We hope that you know that your presence is more important to us than a present. With the economy the way it is, we are not expecting anything from anyone, we only want a night filled with those we love'
Hope that helps
