Question about father/daugher dance ...

Ok,as some of you know, my dad died almost 3 years ago (it will be 3 years next week). And I had posted a while back that I asked my brother to do the father /daughter dance with me and he had said yes. Well, since then, I have gone back and forth with song ideas. Part of me wants something up beat bc the whole thing is going to be hard enough BUT at the same time, I really want a traditional father daughter song.

I really like a few songs:

1) My wish by Rascal Flatt (which a few of you suggested).

2) There you'll be by Faith Hill (thanks to Kim).

3) I loved her first by Heartland.

I really think I want to use I loved her first by Heartland but do you think that's a bit much considering I'm dancing with my brother? Honestly? I want to know everyone's honest opinion. And do you think the lyrics make sense considering it's about a guy that is still alive and giving his daughter away (when my situation is not like that)? Sorry for rambling. I just can't decide.

They are all such great songs. Even though you will be dancing with your brother, you are honoring your Father. Chose the song that he would have loved. Honestly people are going to be so emotional watching you, they probably won't even hear the music

Thank you. That's what FH thinks too. I am chosing to still do the dance bc I want to honor my dad - otherwise I would have skipped the whole thing. Yet, as this day gets closer, I really don't know if I'm going to be able to handle everything. I really like those 3 songs-but especially the one from Heartland. Have you heard of it? The lyrics are so perfect. The video is even of the dad singing to his daughter on her wedding day.

I LLLOOOVVEEEE I loved her first and is the song I'm using as well. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about it being used if I were dancing with my brother b/c it is more of a father singing to his daughter but yet, it still applies...your brother still loved you before your FH. I really think you can use it the more I think about it.

Oh that is perfect!

If you love the heartland song then go for it. It is a great song and seeing that you are doing the dance in honor of your father then it is perfect.

Guests do not read that much into the lyrics of a song -- they are more caught up in the moment of what is happening in front of them -- the music is just background to them.

Thanks Leslie. This has been the hardest part of everything. It's bad enough that he won't be there but all these things just stink! I really want a song that means something to me and has meaningful lyrics. And although I am dancing with my brother to it and not my dad- it makes me think of my dad and how he would probably feel about giving me away and all that. AHHH!!! So hard!

Yeah, I thought the same thing. But every song I have thought about using-felt weird bc it was my brother and not my dad that I'm dancing with. But I keep trying to tell myself that the song I pick is in memory and in honor of my dad. Still so hard to pick a song. But that heartland song def. would be a song choice, had my dad still been here. So tricky and tough. I don' tknow.

I think it would be cute for a major father daughter song, but with your brother...It's almost like he is really going to be stepping in...I think that he and your father would love it!! Very Symbolistic and I love it - Just make sure you wear Waterproof Mascara!!

I absolutely love that song and thought about using it-so many times. But there's a big problem for me with the lyrics... Although the song is perfect in some ways, but unfortunately, most of the song is about him wanting his dad to come home to dance with his 'mom'. And how his mom cried every night wanting his dad to come home. That doesnt apply to me. My parents were divorced a long long time before my dad's accident. So it wouldnt apply to me bc my mom wasnt crying for him come home or to dance with him. Otherwise, I LOVE that song and would so use it.

I think you should choose the song that you would dance to with your father. This dance is to honor him and I wouldn't even think about the fact that you'll be dancing with your brother. that shouldn't be a factor...noone is going to think these lyrics are coming from your brother. Choose the song you LOVE not one that suits the situation. JMO. Good luck!

Thank you. I agree. No matter what I song I pick- it's not going to be appropriate (or as if it's coming from my brother). It's coming from my dad and in honor of him. So I keep asking myself what song I would have danced with him to-had this not happened. And it would have been the traditional butterfly kisses. But now that I have heard this song- it would prob. be this. Thanks everyone for your ideas and thoughts. I can't tell you how much it means to me!!!

I had the same problem with that song for the same reasons. Go with what reminds you of your dad. You will know when you hear it. Go with your heart
