Hi! I usually post on the NWR board but thought this topic might fit better here I'm looking for a sitter for my 3yo daughter....right now just for 1 afternoon/week. If this is someone you don't know, would you prefer to have it in their house or yours? I just had a lady call and she'd prefer to come to my place. Not sure if I want that. I never had anyone outside of family/friends watch her. I even called some daycares and it seems that they're not interested for just 1 day/week. Also, the pre-school hours all seem to go from 12-2:30,3:00, so that doesn't really work for me either. Sorry so long! any input would be great

Re: Question about finding child care/sitter...
If you need only a few hours a week (one day) then you are better off with someone coming to YOUR home IMO. You have no control over who someone allows into their home, but in your home you control everything. I would not trust that the babysitter's home is child proofed etc... I am totally anal about certain things so I would only use someone who was rec'd to me and that had references as well.

I'd love to find someone also. Not necessarily on a regular basis, just here and there. I'm in Pt Jeff Station if anyone know someone....

Re: Question about finding child care/sitter...
I think I would feel creeped out if someone came to my home and I wasn't there - unless, of course, I know them. One day a week isn't bad - my in-laws live in Manorville. But that doesn't help - I don't know anyone, sorry. Good Luck though - I wish I was a SAHM I would do it! Well, come August, I will be out for a year! I can't wait!
I know someone in the Mastic Beach area - she has a daycare/preschool - I used her and still do for my son, she's great -

aww...thanks!! AND CONGRATS on your pregnancy. Twins, how awesome!!!!!! It really stinks how hard it is to find a sitter for just 1 day!! and I am not at all thrilled about looking for someone I don't even know! I really want to stay around my area because I will need my mom to pick her up etc... and don't want to inconvenience her too much

Re: Question about finding child care/sitter...
Maybe try posting in a local college/HS?
I babysit for a woman who posted a notice in the Education building where I go to school. I've been watching her son (now 4) for the past two years - I watch him once or twice a week for a few hours, and then on the occasional weekend.
Posting at a school of ed at least pretty much garuntees that you'll get someone who enjoys children :)
I know that when we moved to Smithtown when I was younger, my mom found a babysitter through the church.
I'd def do in the home though, your daughter would probably feel more comfortable in her own surroundings, and with her own things.
Also, what the mom did first in my case, was have me come over at a time where she was still there, to have me interact with her son, and get to know me bit better.
