Hi Ladies! I have a quick question regarding florists- Im hooked on a particular florist (a high recommended vendor here ) and want to go and book him ASAP. FH's mom wants us to book through a local florist because 'she knows him'.My question to you girls is are local florists GENERALLY cheaper ? Thank you so much girls! Re: Question about florists
You probably not going to see much of a difference unless you chose one of those flower factories where you only get roses.

local florists don't usually handle big weddings as well as a florist who is wedding orientated would...but to humor your FMIL go to the florist and compare quality..then go with FM because she obviously doesn't know that a wedding is not a regular event!

Re: Question about florists
I looked at 3 'local florists'. One of them gave me a quote about the same price as Burton's. The second gave me a quote $2200 higher than Burton's. The third gave me a quote $3000 higher than Burtons. As for the first florist, a friend of mine works there, so I think that was why the price was in line with Burton's.
As for wedding florists, besides Burton's I went to 7 others. One was $500 more, all the others were within $200 of the Burton's price - either up or down.
So, to answer your question - no, I don't think local florists are less expensive.

Re: Question about florists
I went to several local florists they were actually more money and were not even giving me what I really wanted. Then I went to John at FM and he was great! Careful of the local florist some are not wedding florists and it will show

Re: Question about florists
My local florist is Carmine from Flowers By Emil . I used him for my wedding and everything was beautiful and he was cheaper than a 'wedding florist'. He does all kinds of occassions. I don't think there anything called a 'wedding florist' since they all know how to make arrangements, etc. for all occassions.

i say just humor the FMIL and go see the guy...then take her to see our florist and she'll understand and side with the side of wedding bliss instead of wedding disaster!

Re: Question about florists
I'm not sure they'd be cheaper. They may not be capable of doing a wedding. I would ask a lot of questions before booking!!!

Re: Question about florists
My mom wanted me to go to the local florist she's known for years also... so we went. He charged us over $5,000!!!! And that was WITH 10% off. We booked with someone else (obviously) and are paying half that.
It can't hurt to go though.

Re: Question about florists
All the local florists I looked into, were higher - by at least 1-2K

Re: Question about florists
I had a similar situation. My mom is also friends with a local florist & she wanted me to use her. My brother used her 3 years ago & there were things that I just couldn't 'let go' For one the centerpice pedestals were not the ones that my SIL picked out. SHe did not decorate the cake, and forgot the throw away bo-k. As far as I am concerned, if this is my mother's 'friend' everything should have been top notch. When it came time for me to book a florist, I told my mother there was no way I was going to use her. I would rather pay more for everyhting to be perfect!!
