Question about FMIL

Question about FMIL

I was just wondering how many of you went dress shopping with FMIL for her dress. How much input (if any) did you have in the decision?

Re: Question about FMIL

My FMIL went by herself...and the dress she picked out is very nice...perfect for her.

I have to admit though...I was worried about what she would pick...but Im happy that she found what she was looking for and that it looks so nice on her.

Re: Question about FMIL

I offered since she has three sons, and no other future DIL. She refused my help, so I really don't care. As long as my mom and family are dressed well.

she came dress shopping with me, so if she wants company i'll go with her... i usually just give my opinion with what flatters her most... i dont care what color she wears or anything like that...

I offered to go with her; she hasn't taken me up on the offer (to her credit, she doesn't like clothes shopping) but she just might soon. She has asked me about colors I prefer on her.

Re: Question about FMIL

I offered and both my mom and I went looking with her, but she did not purchase anything the day we went. She ended up buying a dress at one of the stores we went to. It is 19 days to my wedding and I have still yet to see the dress. All the moms and grandmas are in silver. That was my one request. She honored that.

Mine must have found one on the clearance rack- It was awful- so now I have to go with her

it' was for a Grandmother- horrible- plus it was a 12 and there is no way she is over a 4 or 6

Re: Question about FMIL

Mine refused to go alone...she was cute to the point of annoyance...wanted me to pick it out when I completely trusted her judgement. I ended up going with her on the only day off I had...Tuesday, May 24th...3 days before the wedding!

Re: Question about FMIL

FH has two sisters. One works in the city, and the other is not always available to go shopping, so I told FH if FMIL wanted help, that I would go with her.

I had to beg my OWN mother not to wear the navy blue dress she had made for my brothers wedding 5 years ago because my BP is wearing navy and I would prefer that the mothers not match them. Any other color would be fine - they can choose ANYTHING BUT NAVY. So I had to rally up MY sisters to take Mom to her favorite dress shop in Cedarhurst when I was on vacation in Mexico and Mom found something that would look great on her in chocolate brown. Problem: the dress is custom made and the company no longer makes the dress. Mom is heavy-set and not really an easy fit. She prefers a certain style - very conservative due to her self-consciousness. So after finally getting my own mother to get a dress in another color, we still have to look.

So NOW, FH's mother tells him that SHE would like to wear a variation of navy. I told him that he better say something because if HIS mother shows up in navy after my disabled mother traveled around LI to find a dress in another color, that she will have my head!

Sorry for the rant but this scenario has the makings of an all out war!

Re: Question about FMIL

Mine hasn't even asked me anything. She makes fun behind my back about my medieval wedding. she told my FSIL 'its a medieval wedding so does that mean we all have to dress up in costumes!' and my FSIL said flat out, thats one option she suggested! She didn't like that. She can wear whatever she wants. I only suggested she dress comfortably. I doubt she'll listen.

I know I won't be going dress shopping or probably have that much input with her because she and FFIL live in New Mexico!! FI sister lives down there and she has nice taste so I'm hoping they go together. Honestly, though, I'm not too nervous. I don't have a preference for what she can wear and I have no doubt she will pick something nice.

Re: Question about FMIL

My FMIL is no longer with us, but FH's aunt will be standing in her place. We haven't gone shopping for her dress yet, but I trust her taste. I could see her wanting me to go with her which I gladly will. Too bad Wal-Mart doesn't carry MOB/MOG dresses tho, we both love that store!!!

Re: Question about FMIL

I went shopping with my FMIL. I thought it was a great bonding experience. She wanted my opinion because she didn't want to wear something too 'old' looking. The dress she purchased is beautiful and I'm happy we spent some time together.

Re: Question about FMIL

I went with my FMIL. She asked for my opinions on dresses and I was honest with her. She valued my opinion more than I thought she would.
