Question about gifts for your parents?

Question about gifts for your parents?

What's the deal with giving our parents gifts? I understand this is customary - but what about if they aren't contributing any $$$ to the day? I'm not cheap or rude by any means, but I just don't completely understand where our obligation for a gift comes in.

Also, I plan on taking my mom, my FMIL, my sister and my FSIL to a spa day the week before the wedding - so I've already budgetted this simple 'thank you'. What else?

Lastly - I'm thinking about this today because I have my first photographer appointment tonight - and I'm wondering about parent albums - and if they're necessary - or if I just want to get them and make them our 'gift'.

So confused !

Sorry so long - TIA!

You give gifts to the parents of the bride and groom because they raised you, took care of you etc so that you could eventually meet your FH. Its not about thanking them for paying for the wedding (traditionally anyway) its about honoring them as parents as you start your new life.

Albums make great gifts, but to save money make your own from your digital images online, or make a scrapbook with your extra proofs.

I guess I knew that was more the intent. I was thinking about making them our own albums - and I figured it would be fun...

I'm making my own! I made an album for each of the last two weddings I've been to and the people loved them. Its not hard, check out the mypublisher.com website.
