Question about Grooms Cakes

Question about Grooms Cakes

Traditionally, does the bride surprise the groom with the cake or does the Groom know about it and help pick it out?

Also, is it normally served at the wedding or at the reception?

Lastly, can anyone reccommend a bakery in the Lindenhurst or Islip area that makes them and whats the average price for grooms cakes?

Thanks girls--im totally clueless on this one!

Re: Question about Grooms Cakes

I am getting the grooms cake as a surprise for my FH. He knows nothing about it. And I'm having it at the rehearsal dinner. I think that's the traditional way to do it. But do what you like!

hey im in lindy too..im actually on my way to my RD ;) but i saw ur post and wanted to answer...my FH knew about the cake and picked it out...alot of girls do surprise them though, which woulda been cute but my FH is a royal pain in the, well you know ;)
black forest bakery is amazing..BUT they are highly overpriced..i went all the way to riesterres in west hempstead where i went to high school, because ive ALWAYS used them, and their price is very fair..mine cost 75, and it was a cut out cake (which are usually more expensive) of Mr Met the mets mascot..lol..it is enough for 35 people..black forest wanted 100 or alil more i think...
good luck!!

wow -- even $75 seems steep to me. I was hoping for more like $50

My FH kind of already knows about it, but maybe I can pick it out myself and surprise him at the RD with it?
