Question about hawaii

Ok, maybe this is dumb but....

can you use your cell phone there? (american cell phones don't usually work in europe, but would assume they work in hawaii?)

Also, do phone companies usually charge extra fees to use them? I have TMobile

When I went to Hawaii, I had AT&T and it worked. But some companies charge a roaming fee, so call your carrier.

Yup, cell phones work in most areas.
I didn't have reception in rural areas of the Big Island (in the volcano), and parts of Kaui.

I'm not sure if your cell phone carrier charges for roaming, but you should note that the peak minutes are counted for the local time. If you call from Hawaii to NY during the day, it will count as peak minutes.

Very good tip about peak mins! I'm not planning on making a lot of calls but will probably need to check in with the parents so they know I landed safely.

I will check about the roaming fees.

Yes, you can but be wary of roaming charges.

I have Verizon and it worked really well...and there were roaming charges, but we each called home when we got there and about halfway through.
