Does anyone know how to make homemade chicken soup for the baby? I would love to make Luke some with fresh chicken, egg pastina, small pieces of carrots & other veggies. The meats in the jar look so disgusting! However... I can't stand to touch chicken with bones in it. Can it be done with chicken breast? Every recipe I see involves dark meat b/c of the higer fat content and steaming it on the bone and then picking it off. Yuck! I can't! Also, how do you make the broth? I would think the canned stuff is too high in sodium and other junk I dont want. All tips/suggestions/advice welcome. My only other choice is to ask my Mom to make some but I'd love to do it myself. Am I hopeless?

Re: Question about Homemade chicken for baby
I use boneless chicken breast ALL the time for my chicken soup. If you boil chicken with some water- that is how you get the stock. And you are right the canned stock is too high in salt. I am not sure but they might have low-salt cubes in the store. And I would probably omit the onions as they might also cause gas for a baby. I would do a search for the recipe on google.com I bet there are tons out there. Chicken soup is one of those things that you can change around to your liking very easily. Don't get too hung up on measurements.

Re: Question about Homemade chicken for baby
If you plan on making a big pot, you could always use just one can of stock, to give a richer flavor and then add a bunch of water, which would take care of the high sodium content. Just don't add any additional salt. Also, I wouldn't omit onions just for the baby's sake - they are not 'known' for causing gassiness, and they get so cooked out that it probably won't have any effect, except for some really great flavor. Let us know how it turns out!
