Question about hotel baskets...and who gets them...

I have quite a few people staying over in the hotel the night of my wedding. A lot of them are young couples, who are coming from nearby, and staying just because they are going to get plastered at the wedding.

A lot of others are family members that are coming in from out of state, who are staying because they have to...

Do I provide EVERYONE with hotel baskets, which would be a daunting task, or just the out of state family members?

we gave them to everyone that stayed in the hotel. But we didn't have anyone nearby stay at the hotel. The closest were friends from NYC that stayed over.

I gave everyone - even though most of my guests were staying for the same 'plastered' reason. Actually I think they used them most - water, aspirin and pretzels.

I did not include all the LI info and things to do stuff.

You may want to ask the hotel how they work it. I think it would be hard for the hotel to pick and choose as people check in. If I saw someone getting one who was going to the same wedding I was, I'd probably ask for it too.

Hmm. So maybe I can do a mini 'fun' version for our friends. Like plastic wine glasses with a couple of mini bottles of wine, chips, aspirin etc...kind of like a mini bar to go....

And for the family members, a larger basket?

Gosh this is gonna be work!

i would definitely ask the hotel how they handle it. if you make two versions, is the hotel going to be able to distinguish who gets which version??

Does the hotel usually distribute them as guests check in? I had a vision in my mind of the baskets already being in the hotel room when the guests arrive.

I would give to everyone...if you do it the other way, I imagine that it would be very difficult for the hotel to figure out who gets what...

We went to a wedding at a hotel in Westchester...it was 30 mins away...but we stayed at the hotel (the wedding ended at 1am...) I was so happy that they had a toothbrush in the bag...b/c I totally forgot mine...since I wasn't going far...lol
so I would give it to the locals as well

you can do an inexpensive bag...

go to target...they have small gift bags for $.70 or less...then get a big pack of water bottles...a multipack of small bags of chips...a big bag of lifesavers...

then in the travel aisle of CVS (or whatever drug store) you can get q-tips...toothpaste...lotion...deodorant...etc...

We were able to address each basket to the guest, and the hotel gave the correct one when they checked in. That may be one way to have different versions and not confuse the hotel staff.

i dont think its necessary for the local people. but if you want to, then give 'em something small. dont give yourself a headache over it

I have never seen one in the room. I have only rec'd them when I check in the hotel. That's what my hotel too. It you want them in the room, I would talk to your hotel first.

Misty - I wasn't too bad to make. I got small gift bags from Odd Lot 2 for $1. Then off to Costco to have them filled. I got this package of individually wrapped aspirins, case of bottle water, a case of fruit cups, case of individial packages of pretzels, case of individual oreos,, etc. Then filled the bags assembly line style. I added a personalized note tied in a scroll and it was done.

I gave to all guests, but I think you only need to give it to people who are making a weekend out of it!

We are giving everyone because I don't see how you can make a distinction between the two. And I don'tknow if a hotel would let you say 'give this to these people, but not these.' JMO I know if I was staying a a hotel and I didn't get a goodie bag when everyone else did just because I live close, I would be a little bothered.
