Question about including people...help!!!

So we are starting to discuss who will do what, and be a part of what in our wedding....my question is

What are all the jobs that people can do to be invovled as a part of your wedding??? We are getting married in a catholic church, and then reception is in a hall.

Can you help me???

So far i have
candle lighters (not sure how many)
Ushers
Readers (3 i guess???)
Bridal party of course
flower girl
ring bearer
People who bring up the gifts
Someone to hand out programs
Someone to hand out bubbles

If you have someone creative in the family, they can make the pew bows.

Also, usually the GMs = ushers...

What do you mean by candle lighters? If you mean the candles on the altar, those are lit prior to the ceremony starting so it is done by the church personnel or the altar servers. Those that bring up the offerings are usually the parents of the bride and groom. Readers: you need one for the first reading and one for the second reading. If you are not having the Responsorial Psalm sung you can use another reader or have the reader of the first reading do it as well. You can also have a reader do the Prayer of the Faithful if you want to include someone else or the Preist can do it. You can either have additional guys act as the ushers to bring people to their seats or have the GM do it. The Ushers can also be the ones that give out the programs if you decide to have people sit themselves which is what usually happens anyway.

Someone other than the parents can bring up the gifts.

Re: Question about including people...help!!!

Well I guess it's a lil more complicated and a little different. My mom is methodist and she is from the midwest. I have so many people that I want to be a special part of my wedding...so I want to make people feel important and special without handing out too many trivial jobs (if that makes sense)

At my mother's wedding, she asked that no one light the candles and she had what she called candle lighters....We will also be having a memorial candle for his mother that I was told is supposed to be lit before we come in...so someone would need to light that, but that will be FH's choice

In nebraska (where my mother is from) they also do host and hostesses. Generally there are some that are responsible for things at the church and others responsible for stuff at the hall. They help arrange thing, set things up, and take stuff from one place to the next. At the reception, they direct people and blah blah. In NY a lot of this is done for us already by our reception halls and vendors.

In Nebraksa, they also have cake cutters. And their job (and it's a huge honor) is to be by the bride and groom during cake cutting, and then cut the cake.

So I will have a couple honorary positions, just because it's my mother's family traditions. But I'm having trouble, because I want to include different people.

As for ushers...we're going to have separate groomsmen and separate ushers. I know groomsmen can be, but we're gonna do it different

Just thought I'd fill in some of the background on where I'm coming from

Thanks for all your responses. can't wait to hear more opinions!!!

Check with your RH about the cake cutters... they may not let any one but staff cut the cake for liability reasons!

Actually every hall I looked at said it would be fine to have my own cake cutter. However I'm just gonna let the hall cut the cake and have them take a picture with me and FH
