Question about La Blossom

Question about La Blossom

I mentioned to my mom today that when I come home for my cousin's wedding, I want to make an appointment with Laurie. I explained that she comes to our house and stuff, because (and correct me if i'm wrong on this) she doesn't really have a studio or flower shop you can just walk into. My mom's concern is that if she's running the business all on her own, what would happen if for some reason on the day of the wedding she's not able to do the flowers. Like if God forbid, she was in an accident or had to leave town for a couple of days? I know thats a horrible thing to think about, but like 2 weeks ago, when my grandma passed away, my mom had to cancel all of her appointments. things do happen, and my mom was worried that if its not a florist who employs a group of people, there might not be a back up person to take care of things in the event that an emergency comes up. Of course I got defensive because I was so excited to meet with Laurie because I LOVE the work I've seen so far and I was excited to make the appointment, but after thinking about it, I guess my mom has a good point. That is something that I might not want to take a chance on.

Sorry thins was so long, but I just want to be clear on the deal so I can get back to my mom on whether or not I'm making an appointment for her to come over. Thanks!

Re: Question about La Blossom

I met with Laurie last night- she's great.

She's been in the business for 12 years and I'm sure she has a contingency plan in the event of an unforseen emergency and does have a staff.

Your Mom's point is valid but that could happen with anyone storefront or not-JMO

i agree with you, and i was starting to argue my point, but i choose my battles (especially since i'm so far away from her and not in the mood to deal with it on the phone at that point because i had to get back to work).

Good question.. I would ask Laurie, she'll be honest with you.. I'd like to know what she does under those circumstances, so can you FM me when you find out???
thanks

I second this advice.. I booked Laurie last week, and she is extremely down to earth and HONEST (you can just tell from chatting with her!) I'm sure if you asked her directly about your concerns, she'll be upfront & straightforward with you. I can definitely understand your (and your Mom's) hesitation, but I do believe that Laurie has some other people working with her so that in the event that (God forbid) something happened to her, your wedding day flowers would still be ready & waiting for you!

Good Luck!!

I would call her and get some reassurance from her. Find out if she has a back up plan. If she has no storefront, where does she do her work, and store her flowers?

Re: Question about La Blossom

Thanks everyone. I definitely will contact Laurie. I have heard such amazing things about her work and her as a person and thats the reason why I was excited to work with her. I will just come out and ask. I hope I didn't come off as a b*tch by saying, 'If she gets hurt, well, what about my flowers?!' I know some things are more important than the flowers, and I hope I didn't come off as rude and snobby, because thats not how it was meant at all. I just know things come up for everyone and I was just curious about the backup plan. Thanks again!!

We have an apt. to meet with her also and I have posted on the Newlyweds forum and noone has responded that they have actually used her. WEIRD. I think anyone can have pics of past work done but I have yet to see any who have used her. I definitely agree with your mom and think you should get some insurance from her. My fiancee will roast her alive with her to the point questions. She doesn't dance around things.

I will keep everyone updated. It seems everyone has had an apt. with her, is going to see her and / or saw her pics from website.

Hope all turns out alright for everyone,

Thomas

Re: Question about La Blossom

i believe there is no difference if she had a retail shop in the middle of main street as oppose to a home stuido (currently in progress)

anything can happen at anytime and sure she has backup and other resources. it's a great question to ask and also the reason why she has insurance.

we are probally booking her today or tomorrow. we love her work and she seems like a good person in the hour + we spent together

Thanks for asking, I have a full staff just in case anything is to go wrong, in 12 years (knock on wood) I have never missed a single wedding. My back up designer is my best friend since college, she has been doing flowers longer than me Do not wory at all.

THis is the e-mail back from LAURIE.. i really feel so at ease, knowing she is my florist, I wish she was in control of every aspect of my wedding... hee hee..

Re: Question about La Blossom

Well, I definitely asked her (wouldn't book someone without asking that) and yes -- she has contingency plans and support people. You should ask her yourself and decide how comfortable YOU are with her and her answers.

Re: Question about La Blossom

thanks so much. I'm going to read my mom the FM that Laurie sent you, Crystal. I think I'm definitely going to try to make an appointment when I come home and take it from there.
