Question about Mothers

Question about Mothers

So my mother hasn't been the easiest to deal with throughout this wedding process. How much input are you mothers giving you? We are paying for pretty much the entire wedding. She is making a huge deal out of handwriting the invitations. At one point me and one of BM's were chatting about stuffing the invites and she had a cow because she was like but I'm handwriting them. And when we went to get bridesmaid dresses my dress happened to be there and i wanted to try it on for them but she nearly had a cow b/c my FH was there and she didn't want him to see me in it (he sat downstairs). Plus she has a habit of maing people feel left out or putting her foot in her mouth. And recently she was like ohh well you can have the reception in the city - we have already made 2 huge deposits at our hall. I fear that I won't be able to enjoyu myself on the big day because I'll be too busy monitoring her behavior. Any suggestions on how to deal with her? Sorry for the rant!!!!!

Re: Question about Mothers

My mom plays a huge role in my wedding not only because my parents are paying for it but I am really close with them. yes some things we disagree on but I really value her opinion.

I think maybe you should talk to your mom about how you feel be honest. The sooner you talk to her the sooner the weight will be lifted off of your shoulders. You have enough to worry about on your day!

i agree.. you should definitely talk to your mom. it is SO important for you to enjoy your wedding and enjoy all the planning. especially if you are paying for it yourself. if there are things that she is paying for, she should really only be concerned how much she is paying for that particular thing.

in my situation, my family has ALOT of opinions and the only thing that i am doing to counter that is NOT TELLING THEM! i just tell them what i've decided on and thats it. instead of having endless conversations about what they think i should do.

hope it works out!!!

if that is the case, then i think you really need to focus your energy on NOT letting her get to you. this is YOUR day and she can have all the opinions she wants, you are getting married and paying for your wedding. its easier said than done, but i think its important for you to focus on the important things that you and FH are doing to prepare for your wedding and also, to enjoy the wedding day itself. if she has a problem, its HER problem. don't let it be yours too. hope it works out!!!

Maybe you need to have a serious chat with her about it. Since you're paying for everything, you can tell her you value her opinion, but since it's your wedding, you'd really like the make the final decisions. Be firm and consistent and hopefully she'll back off. If you're worried about the wedding day, if you have a sibling or cousin or aunt or uncle, ask them to monitor her. Otherwise, her behavior is not a reflection on you. She's your mother, not your child. If she offends anyone and you find out about it, you can apologize and/or send a note but otherwise, don't stress too much about it.
