Being that my wedding is 2 yrs away and I already have my gown...I was curious, should I keep my dress at the Bridal Center or take it home? It does not have to be ordered. I bought it off the rack. It's going to be over a year until I go for my first fitting.
I would take it home. I would be nervous leaving it there for sooo long..

Re: Question about my gown
The same place. I have heard horror stories about dresses being misplaced, stolen, or the place going out of business.I would like to go to the same place for my alterations that I bought it, but I am worried a year will go by and I will go down there and my dress won't be there. Am I just nuts?

I don't think you are nuts. IF you take it home, maybe you can ask them if they can still do the alterations for you? Did you pay for that? Or, post a message on the boards..I'm sure people will have good seamstress to recommend.

Re: Question about my gown
I would be afraid if I left it there that they would let other brides wear it

I'm sure they still would be able to alter it for me. GOD! Where am I going to put it??? Do I just keep it in the garment bag?

Actually, I am afraid of that too. It's delicate...I don't want anyone else wearing it!

FYI: DON'T leave it HANGING for a year!! The weight of the gown with distort the fabric from the shoulders or the bodice (where-ever it's attached to the hanger). Pack it in a box with tissue between the folds and air it out every once in a while.

I would take it home. If mine comes in way early I'm lucky because my FMIL has a huge cedar walk in closet at her house.

Re: Question about my gown
I know they sell those trunks that you can actually store the dress in after your wedding. Maybe you can purchase one now and do that until the big day...

oooh...thanks...which is another good reason to take it home. They are just storing it (hanging) in a garment bag. Anyone know where I can buy a trunk like that? My mom also suggested before I bring it home try it on again to make sure they have not been letting other people try it on.

Re: Question about my gown
I had my gown a year ahead of time but I put it into cold storage because I was told that its better for the gown and it helps prevent any kind of discoloration, or distortion of the fabric.

Re: Question about my gown
My sister recommended going to IKea and get a cedar chest. I have no idea how much this is going to set me back...I still have to finish paying for the dress and put my deposit on the hall...

Re: Question about my gown
take it home, get two queen size white sheets wrap it around the dress and but it in a plastic bag (the one's u get at the dry cleaners) and then put in the bag that the salon gave u. it will prevent it from turning yellow.

I think if you trust the shop, you should keep it there.

Ok.. now I'm totally freaking out b/c I have had my dress hanging up for almost 6 months now b/c I too bought it off the rack! I take it out every now and then to air out, but I am so nervous now that it is going to be warped! I haven't gone for my fitting yet, so if there is any problems they will hopefully be able to fix it. But, even so I will be taking this advice and buying a chest to put it in. I can't wait to leave work now and go home to make sure everything is ok with it. I'm stressing big time!
