Question About Name Change

So, when DH and I went to get our marriage license I indicated that I would be changing my maiden name to take his... well its been 4 months and I havent done so yet .

What does it mean to LEGALLY change your name? Is it just having it changed on your ss card? Or is it legally changed once you indicate it on your marriage cert?

if I indicated on my marriage cert that I would be changing it but never go to SS to change it, either bc i am too lazy or I decide I dont want to change it anymore, what happens to the marriage cert??

The marriage certificate allows you to legally change your name without going to the courts however to legally change your name you have to change it with social security. If you dont change it with ss then its not legally changed. When you get your W-2's and file your taxes your name has to match with your ss card.
