How much below asking price do people typically offer? I was hoping someone with a Real Estate background may give me an idea. I keep hearing about homes selling for a lot less than asking.

Re: Question about offers?
take certain things into account when making an offer...
1. how long has the house been listed? if it's only been a few days the sellers wont be negotiable at all. 2. does the house need any updating? if it's stuck in 1972, you definitely have some room for negotiating 3. do your research...are there similar houses within a few blocks that have components that the house you are interested in doesnt have (ex - central air, new boiler, new roof, etc) 4. when shopping, ask the 3 main questions...how old is the boiler, how old is the roof, how old are the windows? if all 3 are really old, more room for negotiating and justifying your offer.
As a sellers agent (as all NY realtors are unless you pay them a fee), we work to get the seller's the best price for their house. A typical offer is about $20k-$30k under the list price. Then you can usually meet somewhere in the middle. FM me if you have more questions or need a good realtor.
