Question about painting over wood.

We have knotted pine in our upstairs hallway and i really don't like it and i don't want to take it down. Has anyone ever painted over knotted pine? How did it come out? Pics?

MIL did. The biggest problems she encountered was the knots showing through. No matter how many times she painted over them, they would almost 'bleed' through. The guy in the hardware store told her about some product that she put on the knots to cover them. She tried it out, and painted over, and hasn't seen them since. The walls look great now!

Use oil based Kilz. Two coats. It cleans up with mineral spirits. Allow 24 hours between coats so the paint may harden. This bleed from the knots is called tanis.

Oil based primer and stain blocker.
