Question about protection plan for our new couch

Question about protection plan for our new couch

We are not sure if we should get it or not. it costs $200 and covers a lot of things (but there is also a lot it does not cover). We are really undecided... Ray thinks we will never have to use it but I always think realistically and with his friends and our dog anything can happen
So if anyone has any experiences or insight to share, that might help us decide.
Our couch was only $1450 by they way.

Re: Question about protection plan for our new couch

I went through this when purchasing our new sectional back in July. Is it a light color? I would get it, I just called Guardsman last week. I have 2 ink lines on my couch already. One from my flowergirl, and one from DH when he was recovering from his illness. It's only an extra $200 at this point, right? Will it make a big difference?

Is the plan through Guardsman? They do cover a lot.

We were offered something similar and decided not to bother because it did not cover pet-related things, which, for us, was going to be the most likely thing. But if your coverage will include that, it might be worth it.

Yes it is Guardsman! It includes pet urine which it not a problem right now, but lets face it Gizmo is turning 13 this year so he might start to lose comtrol soon

I would say don't do it. Here is why:

When Dyl and I first moved in together five years ago, we bought all of those protection plans. Then what happens....

-you lose the protection plan and have no idea how to go about redeeming it.

-any stain is really able to be removed. Or its not a big enough deal to warrant the hassel of redeeming the plan.

-the plans never give you a new couch. They just clean whatever stain you have or replace the cushion.

Those are my thoughts. If you really do stain it, you can always call someone to clean it anyway.

We didn't get it because we knew that we would either forget we have it or lose the paperwork for the protection plan. We don't have kids, just a cat. My brother, however, got the plan and used it within a couple of months of buying the couch. He has two little girls, a dog and a cat though.
They are more organized that we are

I bought a couch from Levitz many years ago and purchased the protection plan. I highly recommend getting it.

I was single and really put that couch through hell. In the end we had a popped spring and one of the cushions were ripped and they gave me a brand new set, no money charged. Only the couch was damaged but since it was discontinued they gave me credit to purchase a new couch and loveseat.

Well worth the money in my opinion : ).

we bought the protection for our couch. My reason was the same as yours, with the dog, our neices and nephews, and friends somehting is bound to happen. Our plan pretty much covers any normal issues that may arise, pen on the couch, spills that wont come out etc.
My parents have a cream sectional and they bought the plan, good thing because they needed to get a part replaced b/c the leg broke. However be careful, I know on another occasion my mom had a problem because with some plans if you dont report the 'accident' with in 5 days or something, it is NOT covered! My mom didnt know this and she was honest about when the stain was made and they wouldnt replace it.

IMO with the amount of money you will spend on furniture for your house, another $200 is a drop in the bucket and well worth it!

i totally agree with this. we just bougt a new leather sectional from levitz and opted to go w/ the protection plan for the additional 200. we figure the sectional was about 2400 so 200 seemed cheap in the long run. it does cover a lot, including food stains, pet stains (i have 2 dogs, one turning 12 soon so i hear ya on that julz), etc. they either repair it or completely replace it if it falls under warrenty, and i like having that peace of mind.

We just had couches delivered today and we bought the plan (for $150). It covers everything (except battery acid...LOL). It covers full replacement too. We will have kids soon (hopefully) and I didnt want to worry about the couches...so, anything happens, we're covered. I usually dont buy these plans but in the long run, its notmuch $ at all and worth it to me to have the coverage.

I'm gonna have to agree with this ... we actually got in on all our LR furniture (some from Stern's & some from Seamans) - we've never used it. I have no idea where the policies are and it's time to replace them all now anyway.

I did feel the same way, like with the dogs, it was a MUST ... but I would rather have that $ back now!!

I am still undecided. I have a feeling that if we don't get it, something will go wrong right away! Just my luck!
Our couch is a very light tan microsuede.

So is ours. I think it is worth it, it's your decision. Everything shows on light colors!

My IL's have 2 dogs and they would jump and lay on the couches when they weren't home, causing the cushions to flatten. Guardsman was able to come and refill the cushions.

I have a leather natuzzi couch, and also a dog. We took the protection plan, and we actually had to use it once. They came and fixed it. It covers holes, tears, etc. You never know when you may need it.
