Question about replies.

Question about replies.

Did any of you have guests that put more than 1 in the # attending spot when you only invited them? What did you do? We have a bunch of single people (all who are family or part of a group of friends) and I don't want things to get sticky. I've already pissed off another friend because he hinted he wanted to bring this girl he just started dating and I told him our policy (married/living together, couples who have been together a while where we know both people, hang out with them, etc.) He said he didn't want to be at a wedding alone, but he will be with a whole bunch of our fellow college friends. He also pulled this at a mutual friend's wedding, she finally let him bring the date, paid for the extra plate and then he didn't bring her. I don't want to start making exceptions, but how do I handle this? On a case by case basis? I have single friends where they occasionally date people but wouldn't think of bringing them to a wedding. Argh!!

Simply call them and explain that you don't have the space for the extra guests

I agree

You have to put your foot down. Not invited = not coming. If you allow it for 1 you have to allow it for all. No case by case. You'll drive yourself nuts.

Thanks. I guess I just feel cr@ppy about pissing this friend off. But I keep thinking if I had been invited to a wedding without FH when we just started dating, I don't think I would have been offended, especially if I had a lot of friends there. FH was almost not invited to my cousin's wedding when we had been dating a couple of years, and I didn't mind, just didn't want to cause drama (he ended up bring invited because we moved in together a few weeks before the wedding and they found out and figured they had enough no's that he could come).

Sorry for the novel! I keep thinking we should have done something more creative than # attending on the reply cards, like 'X of 1' or 'X of 2 will attend.' Oh well, too late now!

Will there be anyone else at the wedding he knows? I have a very good friend that is single and only invited him. He called me and asked if he could bring someone because he would feel more comfortable if he knew at least one person at the wedding. We didn't have a problem with that

yup, i am agreeing here too. give people and inch and they take a mile. i think sometimes guests just don't understand just how much $$ goes into the wedding and don't see anything wrong with 'bringing a friend'

unless you put '& Guest' on their invite, i think it's rude to just add someone else.

don't feel bad about saying you'd prefer if they come as a single.

He's part of a big group of FH and my friends from college, so he'll know plenty of people. I think it's more that he feels sensitive to the fact that there will be a bunch of couples among them and he won't be able to bring his date. But we just can't fit all our single invitees' dates (and I know some people would feel more comfortable if they're invited alone anyway, so there's no pressure to bring someone).
