Question about seating?

Question about seating?

Soooo...where do the parents sit? My parents are each one of six children, so on either side of the family I have 12 aunts and uncles. It would be impossible to really seat them with the aunts & uncles without picking sides. I have 3 siblings - all in the bridal party. I'm kind of stumped!

If i could add to this question....do you split up the RH with brides side and grooms side or do you mix them together???

you could sit your parents with fh's parents...and maybe the grandparents...or say the closest/oldest siblings that they have from all the sides.

if you don't want to pick one side...maybe mix them up with friends and all sides of the family.

my parents are divorced...so im just trying to put my dad's guests on one end and my mom's on the other and fh's family/friends in the middle. im more or less trying to put groups together that have stuff in common etc.

Re: Question about seating?

Both DF and I have large families as well. I have my BP at 1 table. My mom and DF's parents were each given a table and I told them they can choose who is placed at that table with them.
I also told my mom and DF's parents that they can do the seating arrangements for their guests. DF and I will do for ours. However they can only choose who sit at tables together, not which tables they are sitting at. I'm giving them a deadline and after that people are going to be sitting in alphabetical order.
This has greatly reduced the stress on me about seating charts.

Also I am mixing up the tables so there is no bride's side grooms side.

I was going to suggest something similar to the above. Then, seat your aunts/uncles with their kids (your cousins) and maybe even grandkids...or seat all the aunts/uncles at one table and all the cousins at other tables.

My engagement party was small (65 people), so I mixed the 2 families and it kinda worked out...my parents were VERY against the idea at the beginning, but they eventually went along with it. But, I could tell that our guests weren't too comfortable being with others they didn't know...they got over it eventually.

For a wedding with more people, I would recommend separating the 2 families because it'll be easier to seat people that way...but that's just me.

I'm def. splitting up the BP so they sit w/ people they feel comfortable with. My sister (MOH) will be w/ her friends. GM will be w/ their friends. The hard part is going to be where each cluster of people sit... at what table..

you could always ask them who they want to sit next to and then it is off your shoulders. just a thought
