So when you buy your dress do you also buy your slip or crinoline the same day? Do you have to wear a slip or use crinoline? I didn't buy my dress yet but I don't want them to make me buy something I don't need yet. Is it better to try that stuff on when your actual dress comes in? I'm clueless about these things!

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
honestly i think it depends on your dress--a lot of gowns have crinoline built in. simple a-lines may not need it -- but ball gowns usually do...to kind of poof the dress out properly
i got suckered BAD into paying for a $ 95 slip from my dress shop--they told me i HAD to have it. so i said 'ok' - they ordered it, and it was fine for when i stood there for fittings. but on the big day--as i was moving around---i freaking hated it. even with elastic in the band and double knotted around my waist--it was slipping--plus my dress already had some crinoline in it and it was just too much.
after the ceremony -- DH and i went into the bridal suite and i said 'get this f**king thing off me NOW!!' we practically ripped it off. and you couldn't tell a difference.
i had an a-line gown btw. but each dress and slip situation is different!

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
OH definitely wait. You might not need it b/c if the samples sometimes tend to be less full and when urs comes in it might be ok. Thats what they told me b/c my dress is a ball gown and I felt like it should be poofier, but the lady told me to wait til it comes in and then decide. Plus, you can prob shop around for a cheaper one than what they will offer u in a salon IMO.
HTH
If you want check my album to see what I'm talking about. My dress had some crinoline already in it but it was kinda smooshed from all the wearing and tryin on so I'm hoping when mine comes in I wont need an extra slip, cuz just trying those on made me itch

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
not every dress needs it. Before you order try your dress on with one and without it and see which you like better. Also remember some slips are fuller than others.
If you decide to get one NO you don't need to order it that day or from the salon at all. I know girls who borrowed each others or got them elsewhere cheaper.

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
when i ordered my dress, i tried it on w/ the slip, and i absolutely hated it. the woman kept trying to talk me into it, but it made the bottom of the dress poof out sooo much, and mine is an a line, so it should not be poofing out that much. there's enough under there already w/ out the slip. of course i heard that i'll regret the day of, but i can guarantee you i won't!

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
i did not purchase a slip/crinoline when i bought my gown. I'll be waiting until after it comes in to do so.
not all gowns need one. don't let them pressure you. If you want it poofier, get a crini, if not...don't.

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
this is the reason i ask -
i am almost 100% sure that i found my dress - i just have to order it. i tried it on without a slip twice. i guess its an a-line dress that is very gathered on the bottom. its a demetrios and there is a picture of it in my album. i want the bottom of the dress to be very full - when i tried the dress on it was tremendous on me so its hard to see how it would lay. if the dress is not full enough i can purchase something to wear underneath it but if i like the way it fits i can leave it alone right?

totally--just order the dress and then later on you can always get a slip for it no problem! ebay is a great place to find cheap slips!

Yes you can purchase something. Ask the salon how long it would take for slip to come in. Many places have them right there. I think Davids even carries them in the store if your salon didnt.

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
Yeah, exactly! You can also order them online much cheaper than in the Bridal Salons, so I would wait until you have the dress in your size and see if you need it!

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
ok good. i didnt want them to make me buy something that i might not need or want. plus if i do want something i rather try it on with my actual dress that is in my size rather than trying it on with the sample.
thanks girls!

I think the ones at the stores are just really smooshed from being shoved in the racks and from people trying them on. Wait til your dress comes in. I'm not adding anything extra to mine.

Re: Question about slips/crinoline
When I looked for a dress, I asked the consultant to give me a slip as I tried on dresses...she did, but then she herself said that i didn't need it because the dress i liked had enough crenoline in it. So, no slip necessary, yay!!
