Question about 'The Pill'

Question about 'The Pill'

Okay... so this month I switched from Yasmine to Yaz, which has only 4 Sugar Pills. I started my pack on a Friday. Today, I'm supposed to start a new pack. BUT, I still haven't gotten my period!

What are some reasons for this? I used back up all month, so I'd be SHOCKED if I was pregnant. On my last pill pack, I would start on Sunday and usually get my period on Thursdays.

I really want to get it so I don't have it for the wedding (I did double up pill packs during the summer to plan it out so I wouldn't have it for the wedding or honeymoon, so I'm hoping to get it asap!). At this point, though... I'm just hoping to get it!

I did have a day of breakthrough bleeding last Tuesday, but I hear that's common with Yaz. (I've also been getting intense migraines... yesterday was my 6th consecutive day with an hour of migraine!).

Do I start my new pill today if I still haven't gotten my period?

Re: Question about 'The Pill'

I would start the new pack when you are suppose to. That has happened to me b4 when I've switched BC. Why don't you take a test just to be sure it isn't tha? I think if you keep getting the headaches though you should call you doctor. That happened to me too...and she took me off it and put me back on Yasmin Lo.

Hope you get it soon.

Well I hope you get it soon!!

You should start your new pill as scheduled even though you haven't gotten your period.

About your headaches, call your doctor. I would get a lot of headaches too from my bc , so I had to switch.

yes, you should start the new pack. sometimes when you start on new pills your body can get messed up and you can skip a period. if you want to put your mind at ease, take a PG test.

ETS: as for the headaches, thats definitely not normal and you shouldn't be living with that. you need to call your dr. and switch back. why did he put you on a different one in the first place?

Re: Question about 'The Pill'

I am not on Yasmin, but I just switched from a high estrogen pill to a lower one and the same thing happened to me. It is completely normal that your body is not used to it and I was told it can take up to 3-months to get on track sometimes.

If you were using a back up, I would suggest you continue to do so until you get used to the new pill.

As far as the headaches, like the other girls have said, I would call the doctor, you might need a different pill.

Another reason maybe is the estrogen level in Yasmin might not be enough for your body and that is why you are not getting your period.

I would call your doctor, but either way start the new pack.

Re: Question about 'The Pill'

Thanks, ladies. I do have a call into the doctor for the second time this week. The first was about the headaches, which she said is probably just because of the transition from one pill to the other. I originally switched because my sex drive was in the toilet. It's better with Yaz, but I can't stand these headaches. I take 3 Advil and they go away within an hour, so I'm going to give the pill a chance and chalk it up to the transition phase. But if in another month, my head still throbs on a daily basis, I have to make another change. I just hope I don't get this migraine on my wedding day!!! I'm gonna have to take Advil first thing in the morning!

Wow... so I might skip my period altogether? That would be nice... but I will take a test, just to feel better.

Thank you!

hmm, i don't know what to say as far as the pill is concerned b/c i'm clueless about that stuff-- i always just call my dr. and ask him every ? under the sun...

but as far as the headaches-- are you positive they are from the pill?? b/c i had to call in sick to work on wednesday because i had a terrible migraine (after having bad headaches for a few days) and my general dr. told me it was definitely due to sinuses and he said he has been getting a lot of people in his office lately complaining about the same thing. for me to get a migraine is a big deal-- i can't recall ever having one before in my life and my dr. said that it's been so common lately with the change of weather and how bad allergies have been for some people this year-- they are SO bad he told me i might need to take a daily pill to control mine-- it got so bad, i spiked a fever!

thank god i'm better now-- but on sudafed to control it.

just thought i'd let you know that b/c maybe it's just a coincidence with the pill and you have what i had??

hmmm... maybe? I'm on migraine medication already (Topamax), so it's annoying that I'm GETTING migraines while TAKING migraine medicine every day! Someone else also told me they've been getting migraines with the weather lately, so hmmmm....

Nothing a manicure/pedicure can't cure! lol

Re: Question about 'The Pill'

Drink TONS of water & your headache should go away. Yaz has a diuretic in it (that 'drsp' crap). That's why people seem to lose weight on it. Your headache might be good old dehydration.

Re: Question about 'The Pill'

I've a sneaking suspicion that the bad migraines and skipping your period are a result of the combination of the stress your under with the wedding so close and switching pills. Messing with hormones while you're under stress can do strange things to your body. Even on the same pill I'd been on, my body did strange things with my cycle when I was studying for the bar exam. Stress + hormones don't mix!

Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and try to relax.

Definitely take the pill when you are supposed to or else you will mess with your body chemistry even more!

Keep bugging the doc 'til they call you back, too!

i wonder if that 'drsp' crap makes your sex drive go bye bye?? b/c i have been meaning to switch from yasmin to something else for a while now and i'm just curious as to what exactly IN yasmin is making so many people lose their drive-- including myself. hmm, i really need to get on switching pills but i worry that the same thing will happen with another pill OR i'll gain weight on another pill

Re: Question about 'The Pill'

On my way out the door so I couldn't really read through them all, but I am that way almost every month. The dr told me that it might take a little for your system to adjust. I would get my pd on the first day or so of my new pack. Much lighter and shorter though...you shouldn't have anything to worry about...The pills also stay in your system for 30 hrs, longer than most pills, so it's just an entirely new routine for your body.

Re: Question about 'The Pill'

I agree with the headaches on all counts. Call the dr, but it could be the weather - I'm not on the pill and I had the worst headache for about 3 days. It would fade in and out.

As for the pill...I'm terrified to gain weight, so that's why I never went through with getting on the pill...
