Re: Question about tipping

There are just so many opinions out there...and tipping 'cheat sheets' that contradict one another! I think after all the said and done - and after all the advise I have gotten here and read online - this is what we plan to do....
$4pp to the maitre d' (Fox Hollow suggests $3-5 pp)
$150 to the bridal attendant
20% of the total bill to the makeup artist
My usual 20% to my hairdresser (I'm going to her morning of)
$150 each to the DJ and the MC (which works out to around 15% of the bill)
Only $100-150 to our photographer. It doesn't work out to 20%, but he is the sole owner of his business and isn't bringing an assistant, so the entire payment is going to him.
With regards to our officiant - who is a reverend at a church in Garden City...we are already paying $600 for her services. I'm still a bit confused on what is expected. Do you really 'tip' a reverend? Is that expected - or, god forbid, offensive? We may just donate another $100 to a charity she likes. I think I'm going to call the church office and get an opinion and find out whats customary.
Thats about $1250 in tips! Geesh.
Thanks for sharing! This sounds reasonable.

Re: Question about tipping
I just sent this email to the church main office. So tacky, but I want a straight answer!Good morning!
This is Jocelyn - me and my fiance are having Reverend Sullivan officiate our wedding ceremony on Feb 22 (and we are so happy she was able to officiate for us)!
I have a question - and, please forgive me if it sounds silly, or tactless. We have just heard so many conflicting answers from friends and family.....
Tony and I would like to present the Reverend with a little something extra, aside from the church fee, to say thank you. Either an added monetary gratuity (if she would accept it), a donation to her favorite charity, a gift certificate to a favorite place, etc..
Could someone over at GCCC provide us some guidance - on what is customary - and/or what Reverend Sullivan would appreciate most?
Thank you so much for your time!
Best
Jocelyn (and Tony )
I'll let you know the response - in case anyone else is confused about officiant gratuities...

Question about tipping
20%?! If I'm paying 6k to our photog company for photos and video, that means I'm tipping JUST them $1,200! I am normally such a big tipper, but just, NO..no way. I am thinking of just giving $50 each to give to DJ & MC, photog 1 &2, & videographer. At what point does this become ridiculous?Welcome New Vendors
