Question about values of homes...need help!

Alright here's my new question. Does anyone know of a website that you can go to in order to find out recent sales in a particular area? If there's no website then does anyone know exactly how I can find out recent sales? I always thought it was public knowledge, but I don't know exactly how to obtain the info. I thought you could go to town hall? Any ideas would be helpful. If any real estate agents are out there that could give me an idea of comps I would really appreciate it.

And if it's Nassau county, you can look up the assessed value at mynassauproperty.com.

Also, the Bank of America website has a home worth link under (I think) the tools and calculators section. They keep moving the link around, but it is pretty helpful once you find it.

Thanks everyone for your help. We were able to do some comparison and it's helping us decide on a final offer price.
