FH and I only have to make a few payments toward our venue until the week before. I have heard some ladies talk about paying monthly.
How are you paying? and why? did you venue decide or was it your choice?
I am thinking maybe I should start making some more payments so that we don't get hit so hard in the end. Then again I don't know if I want them to have so much of my money ahead of time.

My venue gave me me a monthly payment plan and then the rest is due right before the wedding. They told me that was there payment plan and I'm fine with it. I have a CD that matures in January so I will be cashing that out and putting it right towards my RH. Like you, I want to try to get as much paid off so I'm not surprised at the end!

Our venue told us $1000 down, then $1000 at the one year mark, then half of our minimum at the 6 month mark, and the balance 10 days before. We were told some people put themselves on a monthly payment plan but what we are doing is putting a certain amount away every week and in October instead of just bringing $1000 we are going to bring whatever we have saved. Then we'll do that again next April.

I am also a WM bride. We have 3 or 4 payments and we did not even pay half of the amount due.
I rather have the money in my possession, I know I will not spend it. If you want to pay more of your balance, WM will not turn your money away.
After reading about The Waterview Club and how some people paid 13K already, this scares me. I will be paying more than 50% of the hall 3 days before my wedding.

thats my main reason why I think i'll keep it as it. I'd rather have my money then let them have it.

My venue gave me a payment plan, until 50% of it is paid off and the rest is due the month of the wedding, so I set up my own payment plan mirroring what they did so I stay on track. Hope this helps!

I'm sticking with the payment plan that my venue gave me. It's a few small payments and the bulk is two weeks prior. My FH showed me this article and it's exactly why I don't want to pay that much before. I don't think my venue will go out of business but you never know what will happen in the future.
we have 3 payments broken up equally, starting 1 year out. so we decided we want to have most paid off so we are paying monthly by choice :)

My venue wanted me to do a deposit, 2 mid payments and a final. I put myself on an auto payment every month that way it lessens the final blow at the end. I have it where enough is taken out each month so if I just make my minimum the reception will be paid and there won't be a need for a final payment. But that's just what works best for my financial situation.

our venue was a $1,000 deposit and two scheduled payments, one of $2,000 60 days later and one of $3,000 6 months before with the balance due the week before the event. we're paying as much as we can as soon as we can. can't wait for it to be off our backs

We are following the WM payment plan and afterwards we may throw some money each month at them so we don't get hit with a huge bill right before. So we will try for monthly payments or just whenever we can give a little more. We were told that if we do the monthly payments after the fact we will have to make sure there is a substantial amount at the end to still be paid. They didn't say how much but I'm trying to shoot for just $5,000 to be paid at the end.

We are following the payment plan the venue gave us but then we are going to add a few extra payments in during the year leading up that way we don't have to carry such a large amount of money the day of.
