FH and I are looking to have a late summer/early fall 2015 wedding. We recently went to a few venues, and some were all booked up for Saturdays in September. One tried pretty hard to push a Friday wedding, however the quote was $1 (yes ONE DOLLAR) less per person than the Saturday dates were? Is this typical for this time of year? I was always under the assumption that a Friday wedding was cheaper? I prefer Saturday but was willing to budge if the price was right...but not $1. Thank you guys for your input, this is all very new to me! lol

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
That's what I was thinking, and even as he was writing down the dates and prices he said the price and stopped himself and said 'for a Friday? That can't be right' and then checked the book and confirmed that was the price.

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
We have an appointment to go see the Somerley this weekend, however I've read some pretty high quotes on here.I don't know if I confused anyone, I am not looking for a Friday, I highly prefer a Saturday evening. I am just confused because I was under the impression Friday is usually a lower price, in which case I would have budged because we really want September but for $1 difference I'd prefer the last Saturday in August or first in October for that matter. Maybe he sensed we really wanted September and figured we'd go for it?

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
Our date is set for the first Saturday in January and we got an amazing deal but then again it's in January which might not be a popular month to get married. I just loved the idea of a winter wedding and another celebration shortly after New Year's. Keep you're appointment with Fox Hollow but call back the other venue and see if there is something they can try to accommodate with you and your FH. Keeping my finger and toes crossed for you guys that all goes well. Just don't get discouraged. Everything has a way of working themselves out :)

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
Thanks Kimberley! I love the idea of a winter wedding, I just know I would stress myself out like crazy worrying about snow! We are definitely going to keep the appointment, I am pretty particular about the type of venue I want and Somerley is really the only other one that caught my eye. We have a few other appts as well, I will make it a point to get prices for both Friday and Saturday and then maybe contact the guy we met with and ask if there was some type of error since he himself didn't believe it when he told us. Best of luck with your wedding, not sure how far along in your planning you are - it must be so exciting!

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
I totally hear you about the weather. Especially with all the snow we had this winter, however I am trying to stay positive. Definitely get prices for both Friday and Saturday and see which venue better accommodates your needs. I was sold with Fox Hollow because of the Winter Garden room and they offer such a wide range of choices not only for the cocktail hour but for the reception as well. Plus there will still be Christmas decorations up and it holds such a cozy, warm ambiance. We have been fortunate enough to have booked all of our vendors. Recently added some engagement pics in my album if you're interested. My FH and I knew with what vendors to cut corners with as well where to spend the little extra and that is definitely with the venue as well as with the photographer (and videographer should you choose to have that as well.) Best of luck with your planning as well and enjoy every moment of it. Sooner than you know it it will be your big day :)

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
Even if it does snow it will be beautiful! I've seen many pictures from weddings and the snow looks beautiful! And if it weren't winter you'd have to worry about rain, there will ALWAYS be something, so you just have to plan for anything and make the best of it! Your engagement pictures are beautiful by the way!

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
That is strange that the difference was only $1! We visited 9 different venues and ALL of them had a $20-30pp difference between Friday and Saturday. Do what makes you comfortable. We saved about $10pp switching from September to August at Fox Hollow. I had no idea it was actually cheaper to get married in the summer months than in the Fall (except when it's on the water). The Somerley room is about a $25pp increase from the other rooms.
Let me know if you want the Fox Hollow quotes I have =)

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
Yes, I would appreciate the quotes if you don't mind sending them, thank you! I think when we go to the other places I will get quotes for both days and then if we decide we still like the first venue I will contact the guy we met with and double check that there wasn't an error or see if they can do any better on the price. Our first venue is on the water, so I guess that's why the prices for August - October were all not even a $5 difference.

What range pp would you like to stay in? Maybe we can help make suggestions based on that.

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
My venue was only $5 cheaper pp for a Friday...obviously, we went with Saturday. This was for December, which is cheaper than September. And to reassure the winter girls.....we had great weather and everyone loved the Christmas decorations!

Re: Question about venue prices
I'd like to stay around $120 pp... I'm comfortable with the prices we were quoted for Saturday, it's just that there were no Saturday evenings for this specific venue in September 2015, so he was pushing Friday and I (along with the guy we met with apparently) was surprised at the tiny difference in price, since from what I've read that's typically not the case, but this is all new to me so I didn't know if that's normal for that time of year. We are going to a few more venues tomorrow and Monday, I will see what they tell us. Wish us luck!

Question about venue prices - Long Island Weddings
larlynn,if I remember correctly, the beginning of December was beautiful last year! I'm always in awe of photos I see from winter weddings, I just know myself, I would panic too much, especially since a number of our guests will be traveling from different cities/states/countries, and I'm sure by that time I'll have enough to panic about! lol

Re: Question about venue prices
Have you tried Antun's in Queens Village? I know it's a little further out but they have very reasonable rates and quality service. There is an Antun's in Hicksville but it is NOT affiliated with the one in Queens Village. Anyway, it's a nice place. If you'd like some quotes, let me know and I'll leave you a FM. All the best!
