Question about wedding bands...

FH's mom is offering to give us his grandparents rings for our wedding bands. but they are gold. we want to dip them in white gold but my mom almost had a heartattack when i told her. she thought it was disrespectful to change them. but we both can't wear gold and FH's mom is ok with it. what would you do?

PS - i can't turn it down, it would be rude...right?

If I were in your situation, I wouldn't dip them...

1- if the gold is polished YELLOW right now, the rhodium (dipping) will not last long at all, because it's a ring. Chunks of yellow will show through very soon (a couple months, with everyday wear.)

2- I wouldn't change the original form.
