Question about wedding registry

Question about wedding registry

Do you ladies who have had your bridal shower, or even those who are in the process of making a registry regret/ removed anything you've registered for? I'm constantly being bombarded with suggestions from friends and family about what to, and not to register for, thats its making me a little confused.

Can some of you ladies share your 'essential items' that you registered for. Also, how many place settings of dinnerware (casual or china) do you think is necessary? I registered for 8 fine china settings, but was told to go with 12 in case some break. Is 8 enough, or should I do 12 to be on the safe side?

Sorry for all the questions, and TIA!!

I did 8 casual and was told by family not to add China because it was something they never use and its something mom's can give you as hand me downs

I obviously made sure I had basics because we just bought a house and have very little. I went with 12 settings of china.

Question about wedding registry

We registered for 12 settings of our nicer dishware. The items that were highest on our registry list were: new linens and pillows for our bed; matching tupperware (so annoyed with the current mismatch situation) and LUGGAGE!

That is a really good list! Yes my linens and new bed stuff was high up on the list and most of it already bought! FH & I already live together and have slowly acquired half that list, but luggage is a good one!

Sheena-how big is your family? Maybe that will determine if you need 8 or 12? I have a set of 12 fine china, and I think my everyday ware is 8, however my mom is crazy and randomly found a 9th set for me separate just in case? So maybe do that? If you really want 8, register for 9 in case one piece breaks?

I registered for 12 but Im not doing fine china. I have a large family so I may need more if they all come over at once.

I already had china that was my grandmother's uncles, it is a set of 12. You have to do what is right for you, so ask yourself if you plan on having people over for Thanksgiving or other parties that might number more than 8, if the answer is no, go with 8 if yes, go with 12.

We registered for a set of 12 on our everyday dishes which are Corelle so they rarely break. If they do break, they can if dropped just right or you have a cement or hard tile floor, we will buy another set then ourselves.

Other than that we had a Breville Toaster Oven, Box for my grandmother's silver, Rice cooker, King Comforter, 12 drinking glasses, 1 set of sheet as we already had 2 and 2 sets of towels.

Good Luck deciding, and don't let them stress you out. You know what you and FH want and need, go from there and add a few other things you'd like but don't necessarily Have to have right away.

There are places that rent the china, flatware, chairs, linens, etc. I don't know much about them, but my FSIL uses them for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. Something to keep in mind in case you ever need it.

Question about wedding registry

We didn't do China, for a lot of reason, but we registered for 8 place settings of every day dishes, silverware, etc. We have lived together for a long time, but everything we have is either hand-me-downs or mismatched, and I just want new! We did new pots and pans, bake ware, etc.

Just remember, a lot of people are going to have a lot of opinions about a lot of things. Stay strong in what you know you want/need and just yes them to death. lol.

Question about wedding registry

For the most part, we registered for things we wanted to register for. Some of it turned out to be things we didn't need and returned, but we wanted to make those mistakes for ourselves. I was told by a number of people not to register for china, but it was something I wanted so I did it anyway and I'm glad I did. Down the line when we have a house, it will be something I'll want to display and keep.

Definitely overdid it on the electrics and some of the little pointless kitchen gadgets. I tried to ask myself when we registered if I had EVER used it or seen my mother use it and if the answer was no, I didn't register for it. Good luck!

Question about wedding registry

Thank you all so much for the advice! I know my friends and family are trying to be helpful, but all their wedding advice can be a lot to take in. I think in the end we'll end up keeping the china on there, simply bc I'd like it displayed in our new home, and plan to host some friends and family over.

And thanks, cets for that list. After looking at my registry again, I def have some unnecessary stuff on there, but I know FH and I will use them, so it'll stay. lol I already started seeing some of them go, and the luggage set we wanted, and its still a while till my bridal shower! :)

Melissa-Good point, I do have a big family (5 sisters) so I'll keep the number at 12. Maybe even 12 won't be enough lol Thank you all again! Good to know I'm not just registering for silly things. :)

Good point- I think out of the two of us, I'm the only one that really drinks coffee. FH rarely ever, so I took out the espresso maker out. :)

I registered 8 sets of casual dishes. I have my great grandma's china, and as FH said to me, if we have more than 8 people over, who wants all those dishes, we'll get paper plates! Haha. We stuck to basics because our place right now is super small, and we don't have space for a lot. Flatware, new mixing bowls and baking things, pots pans... pretty basic. Craziest thing was the Kitchen aid which I have no room for but desperately want!

Yeah, don't get rid of those things on the 'unnecessary gifts' list if you don't want to! I really wanted a keurig and kept it on there, and I put just a cake dome on there because I wanted that- I ended up getting a trifle bowl and cupcake stand anyway because people like to buy you gifts that you don't register for lol, but you can ALWAYS return things if you realize you don't want it anymore...

another thing for the necessary list would be a good set of steak knives :)

What was the luggage set you registered for? I can't decide on one.

To get ideas I browsed at Amazon's registry suggestions. I like Amazon because you can register for literally anything. Most places give registry checklist too for ideas

We originally registered for the Delsey helium hardside 29' (2), , and 21' (2), but saw the traveler's choice luggage drop a little lower than what the Delsey was going for, so we went with two 28', and two 21' hardside spinners. They're very light weight too. We also got them in cobalt blue so we don't have to worry about chasing someone down who accidentally takes our luggage. I've had to do that at least 3 times before. lol

As soon as I switched out the old luggage sets with the new ones, people had purchased all of them for us. :)

I'd suggest going with something that has 4 wheels and hard sided. They're easier to clean, and in case for some reason you have to gate check your bag, you don’t have to worry about rain – or the material getting damp.
