I think I read on here somewhere that when you change your name at SS, they assign you a new soc sec #?

Is that true?

If so, that's a pain. I wonder why they have to do that.

At this age, it's been hard enough to memorize my new ph #, let alone a new SSN.

I don't want to change my #! The one I have has a good ring to it!

Dont worry. You are the same person, and the government couldn't track 2 numbers!!! It stays the same!

I worried about the same thing but when I went to SS last week and I asked they said we get to keep our original one. Can you imagine if not for those ladies who get married like 10 times?

Someone had told me that awhile ago you get a new number and I was dreading the whole process and wondering the same thing. Thankfully it's not true, you just get a new card 10 days later in the mail.

It stays the same, Carrie Ann. Just the name in the system changes.
