Re: question for all the teachers
Hi! I am a teacher for 7 years now.
First you have to take the LAST. Then you have to take the ATS-W. Next comes the CST. (Main test for whatever it is you want to teach; science, s.s., elementary....) A lot of it has changed since I got my certification now the rules are different. Go to this website and it will direct you:
www.nysed.gov
You will find all that you need to know on there. If you have ANY questions I can def. help you out.

Re: question for all the teachers
Not all Masters programs require you to take your gres. it depends on what program you want to take. you are def. not annoying. it's a big decision. i would suggest that if you are able to, visit a classroom to see if this is what you want to do.

Re: question for all the teachers
I had to take the GRE to even apply to grad school....during my last year in school I took the LAST, CST, and ATS-W.
I'm not sure if you HAVE to pass the CST before getting a teaching job, but the district I work in did require it. Other districts might have different requirements regarding the content test.

Re: question for all the teachers
you definitely have to take the three tests for certification purposes. If you have an undergraduate degree in education you have 3 years to get your Master's Degree. I went to Hofstra U for mine and I did not need to take the GREs. You will however need to have a certain amount of proffessional development hours each year to continue your certification. I am not sure since I obtained my certification before they changed the requirements. Good luck!

It depends on the state, but in DC, you need praxis I and II, and student teaching.

I didn't have to take the GRE for my master program, I had to take the Praxis I exam.

Re: question for all the teachers
I was certified @ St. Joes and I had to take 4 tests... LAST, ATS-W, and 2 CST's- one for multi-subject, and one for special ed- but that could be because I'm dual certified. If you are looking into becoming a teacher, I HIGHLY recommend their program! GOOD LUCK!
