Re: Question for Catholic brides
My church did not require pre cana. We just had to meet with our priest a couple of times to talk to him and then to take that compatability test. I know all the other churches around me required pre cana and meetings. (I live in Illinois though) I think each church is a little different but not much. HTH

Re: Question for Catholic brides
Every church is different. The few times I went to my church to have a meetings, the priest didn't want to be bothered and of course, my ceremony got screwed up even though we had a rehearsal.BTW, congrats to you and FH and good luck.

Re: Question for Catholic brides
Every parish requires you to do some sort of marriage preperation... either meeting individually with the priest or through the more common Pre-Cana meetings.... Depending on the parish pre-cana is usually held for one weekend OR for a couple of hours on a weeknight for about 6 sessions.
You need to also schedule an inital meeting with the chrch to set the date, set up Pre-Cana, etc. etc. Most people also meet with the priest or deacon that's marrying them again right before the wedding to finalize details.

Re: Question for Catholic brides
contact your church. they should have all the information about precana. FH and I are in the process now. we are getting married in RVCm, but i think anyone can do it through the RVC Diocese

Re: Question for Catholic brides
We did the Engaged Encounter which is retreat style. We loved it and had a really good experience. It's one weekend from Friday through Sunday. If you are interested, you can find the dates here... www.engagedencounter.org

Re: Question for Catholic brides
We've only had to go meet with the priest once so far. We did pre-cana through our parish. We had 5 weekly sessions (but some offer it over one weekend).

Re: Question for Catholic brides
We had to do pre-cana and a version of FOCCUS (sp?). B/c we live here in the DC area, we did both through our parish here. Pre-cana was held over 5 weeks, meeting each Thursday for 2 hours, plus one Saturday to do a Myers Briggs questionnaire session.
We thoroughly enjoyed our pre-cana and learned a lot even though we already live together and have known each other for more than 5 years. We also made some wonderful friends.
I'd highly recommend doing a form of it that is over several weeks. I have not met too many people that have either enjoyed or gotten a lot out of the marathon Saturday sessions.
But you need to speak with your church first and find out what they require. Every parish is different.

Re: Question for Catholic brides
We went through the dioceses because of our schedules. We did a focus test one Saturday, for like an hour, then went back the following week to discuss our results.
Then we signed up for a full day Saturday and Sunday of pre-cana. We had a great time and I recommend this program to anyone who can't make it to their parish or just want to do it this way. Best of luck!!

Re: Question for Catholic brides
We met with the priest and he gave us all the information for pre-cana and foccus.
We did the pre-cana over 3-2 hour meetings over 2 months...we had one date for the foccus test itself, and after that someone contacted us about meeting with them to go over foccus.
Your preist should be able to give you all the info you need

Re: Question for Catholic brides
We only met with the priest once, when we were booking our date. I spoke to him a couple of times over the phone during our 15 month engagement (maybe 3-4 times).
We did pre-cana through the Diocese of NY due to our schedules (even though we were getting married in the Diocese of Rockville Centre). A month before the wedding, I had a phone meeting with the music director.

Re: Question for Catholic brides
We have to do Pre-Cana for 4 weeks where we go to married couples houses... Some church's offer a one day session, mine didnt unfortunately. I would call them and see what they require.
