Our RH gives us a Porterhouse steak as an entree option (there are 6 other entrees guests can choose from). They told us that we can swap the porterhouse for filet mignon. What would you do?
Porterhouse is definitely different - and its huge and delicious, but the filet was good too! We got to try both at our tasting. The porter house is definitely unique, but since I'm not much for steak, I was hoping you ladies could help and maybe ask your FHs if they would prefer a ph or fm . . . TY!!!

Porterhouse. FH and I just went out for steak last Friday and he's a HUGE steak person. He chose the porterhouse instead of the filet mignon.

this is hard!! I know filet is the best cut of beef, but it is very expected at a wedding, I kind of like the unexpectedness of the porterhouse.
Laura, good to know Mike chose the porterhouse though . . . my Mike will eat just about anything.

A porterhouse technically includes a filet I thought as well as a strip steak. Typically, the strip has more flavor but is not as tender as the filet. I personally like the filet because it isn't as tough but FH always tells me I am crazy.

Ok I just asked FH again. He said it depends on the place He said a filet is usually a safe bet, but if a place knows how to make a good steak, either should be delicious. He prefers porterhouse though as long as it's made right and not dried out.

Good call. We know someone had the porterhouse at the Inn last summer and said it was a good steak - it was kind of a backhanded compliment actually, I think what they said was it was good 'and not just good for a wedding hall, but good by steak standards in general' or something. We were like, thanks.

you might want to go with the filet since the porterhouse if over cooked can get tough.

my dad would say the porterhouse (FH doesnt know steaks). but IMO i think the filet mignon is a safer bet.

Porterhouse! It's a huge piece of meat and it's different to get at a wedding. Plus, a PH is FILET and strip steak. It's both sides of the bone, so it includes the filet cut.
