Question for fun #2: Holidays in July

OK, I am a big Christmas fanatic and love the holiday season. I was wondering if you had any particularly fond holiday memories, traditions, particular years when you got a special gift etc.

For me, Christmas was all about going to my grandmother's on Christmas Eve and eating homemade seafood, sitting around and opening gifts. Sadly, she's passed on, but we have a lot of great memories.

Also, my best Christmas morning was when I got my Nintendo

God, I wish I was still a kid, presents aren't fun anymore.

By the way, this is not limited to Christmas, for those of you who don't observe Christmas. Whatever you celebrate, share your memories

As corny as it sounds I love Thanksgiving! I love that it's just about family and friends and spending time with them. There's no crazy thanksgiving season, no killing your self or your wallet trying to get a million things done.

Our family tradition was to go to connecticut the first saturday of december to cut down our own Christmas tree...

My father started the tradition in 1982, when my sister and I were small, I was 8, my sister was 5. Dad always looked so big and strong cutting down the trees and tying up to the car. Then as we got bigger, I let dad rest and I cut them down and tied them up. Last year was the first Christmas since Dad had passed on, it was not the same. FH and I are going to be moving to Jersey so I don't know if we will be able to continue this tradition; but I think it would be something I would like to carry on to my children.

I love Thanksgiving too! I love that it is an American holiday, rather than a religious holiday (although I like religious holidays too). I just love that everyone celebrates it, and it's all about the food and family and football. We don't really have any traditions other than that my dad always seems to wait for the coldest day of the year to put up the Christmas lights!

Christmas Eve - Dad's side of the family. It's the one holiday that no one misses. All 50-something of us. My father does all the cooking of the fish, my aunts are in charge of pastas and side dishes. The aunt that hosts the party is in charge of papergoods and liquor. Kids (although were not kids anymore) are in charge of dessert & antipasta & games for the family.
We do a Kris Kringle with all the cousins (I think we're up to 25 cousins with everyone's DH/FH's) and we just hang out all day long.
It's something that I hope doesn't end, as we get older and married off some may have to forgo this tradition but I really hope it's the one holiday we all remain together.

We go as a family to cut down our Chrsitmas tree too! And I was going to write that that is my favorite memory......when we were kids, we would go to this tree farm in upstate new york......it was owned by this adorable little couple...but then their trees got too big, so we started going to a tree farm in Connecticut!
Last year, though, there was a huge snowstorm on the day we were going, so we had to turn around a got a tree in Queens instead .

I have so many fond holiday memories and traditions...too many to list! So, I'll share a favorite funny one.

My Great Aunt (who passed away a month ago ) had a hearing loss and wore hearing aides. One Christmas we were all sitting around playing a game, similar to Outburst. The topic was 'Name things you string to hang on the Christmas tree'. So, people were calling out things like candy, popcorn, fruit loops, etc. Then, from the back of the room my Aunt yells out 'HOT APPLE CIDER'!!!! We laughed until we cried! I couldn't breathe for a while! She said she didn't know the topic but wanted to play along! I miss Aunt Bubbles!

Um, I love my birthday because it's all about me. Nuff said. Just kidding.

I definitely think Christmas Eve is my most favorite. We always go to my grandmother's house, all trillion of us, and eat our 10 course meal. Then someone dresses up like Santa for the little kids and makes all the big kids sit on his lap and take pictures like the big oafs we are. And there's just a gigantic SEA of presents as far as the eye can see. You would think that sea of presents would be a memory of the past, but really, it's a frickin' sea! I love it!
